A lethal cocktail of drugs known as “Calvin Klein” has swept the nightclub scene amid reports that a 17-year-old London-born violin prodigy died from the dangerous combination.

Experts warn that “Calvin Klein” binges, which involve ketamine and cocaine, “wreak havoc on the brain’s chemical system and can greatly impair overall brain functioning,” according to a site dedicated to treating ketamine substance abuse.

The party drug — with Calvin standing for cocaine and Klein referring to ketamine — produces a euphoric high similar to ecstasy, users claim.

The US National Center for Biotechnology Information said the deadly mix has become “popular among young drug abusers” and has been associated with an “increased risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection,” though the study didn’t provide an explanation for the link.


The drug combo killed Katya Tsukanova, who fatally collapsed June 18 at her Kensington home from an apparent overdose — and her family is now warning others about the drug craze, the Telegraph reported.

Her Russian billionaire father, Igor Tsukanov, said his daughter was a “smart girl, and she made one bad choice” as the drug’s popularity surges with young people.

“What can we parents do? The children will do what they want anyway, and they never tell you the truth,” he told the news outlet.

The late teen’s pal, who asked to remain anonymous, said the drug combo was the “new thing among Katya and her friends.”

“Not just them, though — it’s everywhere,” the friend told the Telegraph.

In the wake of the violinist’s death, social media users questioned whether the party drug’s “sexy name” played a role in its popularity.

“They should call it grim reaper to discourage kids,” one Twitter user wrote.

increased risk of HIV from taking coke and ketamine? sharing needles is dangerous, sure.. but thats just rediculous to report. theyre trying to scare people away from using drugs.. good luck with that

I wouldn't go so far as to say uppers and downers don't mix, in fact if using the right substances of the right dosage they mix wonderfully.

That does kind of sound like an awful combo though....maybe a bump of K on the coke come down....or if in public(such as the case here) a little line of coke to keep you upright.

But the last fucking thing I would ever want is a cocaine comedown while in a ketamine headspace, that just seems....well awful.

And I can't imagine enjoying large amounts of either one if mixing, and ESPECIALLY not large amounts of both.

Now a bellringer while on ketamine, that might be interesting(and dangerous, I could see how this would kill you) but I kind of don't think people injecting cocaine while on ketamine is "sweeping" through London.

But not binging them, that just seems gross and unpleasant....maybe its different for teens or are fairly drug naive, I remember when I was that age I could consume massive amounts of drugs for days straight and the comedown was no big deal, let alone getting the negative side effects that preclude binging on anything now(especially anxiety)

It is an awful combo. But those club kids did that, with mdma on top. Michael Alig. He turned out great!

it's funny this is been something i just would never do, and i was an IV user of both so it would have been really simple but the mix just didn't seem like they would compliment each other.


my one friend swears up and down that it's the best ever, but then again there are people all over Russia missing limbs due to krokodil

those people in russia took regular, safe codeine or dihydrocodeine or whatever tablets and turned them into that shit. Theyd be better off just taking the codeine if it wasnt mixed with APAP. I dont think you can inject it but its still a morphine prodrug. They could have just taken a bunch, instead of "stuffing that filth intae ya veins". Unlike Trainspotting tho, Krokodil is like 50x more gross and dangerous than what people in 80s Edinburgh were shooting

the russian people are trying to make desomorphine, a variant on morphine that's apparently OTC as far as making it. 

i saw a docu on it that was russian(i've seen the many other american ones as well) and they showed them making it and they would also add these eye drops into the shot because it made them sleepy(i imagine strong antihistamine) i can't remember the name but that alone will destroy tissue if injected.

the problem with krokodil is that the people making it aren't chemists in the formal sense so they injections they make for themselves are dirty with leftover reactants and side products.

i feel like if they cleaned up with a simple A?B wash or even polar/nonpolar washes changing it as you do that between freebase and a salt would clean it up well, and than use a wheel filter.

but we call know that isn't happening.


if these guys could get morphine and AA or palladium on carbon catalysts and a few other things they could make their own heroin or even better things if they knew how to carry out catalytic reactions.

Since you saw these documentaries, you saw the conditions these people were living in. Honestly, i forget the name of what i saw, but it showed people who, id normally never say this but in their eyes, you could see they are damaged. Really fucked up looking people. Perhaps somewhat brain damaged. I imagine they dont really care about their well-being or even survival too much.

Sure, they could clean up that filthy desomorphine. But they just wouldnt. They dont care enough to. And actually i can understand that, as fucked up as it seems.

If they cared about their health, they surely would have taken steps to reduce harm or like i said above, just stuck to the codeine. People here would be more than happy to find some codeine syrup without APAP or dihydrocodeine by itself, etc

im familiar with soviet/russian culture. That Krokodil shit shows the worst of the worst conditions, thats prolly why they even do it. Its not like there are no drugs in Russia. Theres fucking plenty. Its a sort of wild west legal environment (you could get away with many things, or you can go to prison for some bullshit youre not even sure you did)

ketamine isn't really a "downer" its not a depressant, doesnt significantly effect your breathing or heart rate and i've never heard of anyone fatally overdosing on it (not saying it isnt possible but its exceedingly rare). and its a great combo, the only time i really enjoy cocaine except for the occasional night of crack shmokin' is mixing it with k.

What a waste.  Never said why they call it Calvin Klein.  I know the brand name but why is it associated with ketamine and coke together?  And yeah, guessing the HIV connection since is from a few fucking after taking those without protection.:insano:

I love how we want these things to be legal more than anything but younger generations only experience every substance along with something else at the same time. No expertise for metrics and proper measurement.

We might never get to experience enlightened society because people weed themselves out and we decide to be humanitarians flexing egalitarian muscles in our societal laws.

Not shaming the other poster yet 17 and that talent with a billionaire father?  Last post on this but wow, guessing he trained her on her instrument at a young age and had such high hopes for her. 

Saw a "virtuoso" at a beautiful Cathedral recently.  Strange how I will go to that as not the religious type and also concerts and dancing I just enjoy the performance.  Her sense of humor was great as well. 

Point being I think from the quotes he would give his billion away to have her back.  Real point which I think you hit on is value of life.  Many don't get it and some never do. 

Grief, I went through a whole Winter when my father died just one week after I visited him at his home.  Hurts like hell and I numbed myself out for a bit. 

Russian people are different yet that is the thing about the world.  We are all one on a humanity level.  Some become lost yet, we are still connected.  Really you can connect with anyone at anytime throughout history/life/time.  Not joking.  But beware. The majority stand on the shoulders of giants and if one taps into some of them, it sucks.

But I am rambling.  Finance and paper are man made.  The holiness within and connection to others is universal IMO.  17 is way to young but it could of been me as well on an O.D.

God people, just don't be mean spirited and harden your hearts.  People for the most part are doing the best they can and are good.  The drug culture, without judgement but just experience, not so much so with the hard drugs blah.

It hurts.  When someone you talked to the day before dies, it fucking hurts.  And this was my brothers girlfriend on heroin.  Not to make it about me but am guessing the father, in Russian style and blunt which is so lacking in America made it clear, yeah.

Well, to start, how about giving children an amount of attention they deserve instead of trying to add another billion to a bank account.

Parents are so disconnected from their children at such a young age as a demand to financially succeed seems to outweigh how a child is raised.

I'm not surprised by this story at all, especially after hearing her father is a billionaire. His head is probably so far up his ass trying to add another 0 to his bank account he probably doesn't even know what her favorite color was.

Parents end up with kids who never tell the truth because they develop adversarial relationships. Parents raise their kids as if they are the warden restricting their freedom and doling out punishment for for not submitting to their ultimate authority.

Once the parent-child relationship reaches this point and becomes an antagonistic relationship kids feel as if nothing positive can possibly come from being honest with their parent. There is no incentive to be honest and tons of motivation to hide the truth.

You want your kids to be honest, don't give them reasons to lie to you.

If you understand that kids are going to do what they want anyways then you need to develop a relationship where they feel it is in their best interest to be honest and open with you, even if you don't like what you hear.

That way you can at least guide the child and if you develop a sympathetic relationship, where you respond to negative behavior with compassion and care...rather than anger, criticism, and suppression...your child will come to view you as an ally and seek your support, rather than an administrator who only exists to chastise, castigate, and confine.

If they don't feel like anything positive could possibly come from being honest with you, why in the world would you expect them to be.
