Have you ever been in a tornado?
    #26029546 -

The craziest shit I've ever experienced happened today. I'm from Delaware so tornadoes are extremely rare here. Earlier today, this crazy storm showed up out of nowhere. We kept watching and it got worse and worse. Trees were breaking in front of us. I was in the worst of Hurricane Sandy and this made it Sandy look like a joke. I started getting nervous that a tornado might form, not realizing that the tornado was passing over us!

I know that's mild damage for any mid-west folks, but, man, I was literally inside of a tornado today. On the bright side, when we were looking at the damage, my brother found his first psilocybin mushrooms of the season.

I'm from NJ, not far from you, but I have never seen a funnel cloud touch ground. I HAVE seen a vortex kind of thing swirling in the near distance 2 or three years ago and the sky had a greenish color from the tree leave debris it was sucking up. Watching trees break before your eyes sounds pretty messed up! Too much violent weather for these parts the past several years! As far as hurricane Sandy goes, I'm glad you weren't with me that day -that bitch passed directly over my house! Stay safe amigo.

Same here, man. There actually a thread on here. I was tripping on some mescaline analogue and the storm just stopped. I posted on here and everyone was like "Dude, you're in the eye. Don't go outside!" It's a good community.

I heard it was worse in Jersey, though, especially on the coast. It was pretty strong here, but nothing that was properly scary.

Seriously. He wasn't expecting it, at all. It wasn't just some either, it was so many that he couldn't even grab them all. It's not my area of expertise but I suppose they were pans.

I was in a house destroyed by one of these tornadoes.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Southern_Ontario_tornadoes

Everyone made it to the basement safely, but we came out to a missing roof and collapsed walls. The neighbours house across the street was untouched, so we went over there afterwards.

I remember lots of weird things. The toilet had been ripped out and set down in my cousins room (lots of jokes were made at his expense); folded laundry still on the dresser despite holes in the wall; big old satellite dish crushed up like a paper ball, but a wood pile still nicely stacked right next to it; the roof was carried a few kilometres away.

I had a bad phobia surrounding any type of severe weather. Even a gust of wind would send me into a panic attack. I ended up working through it by reading everything I could find in the local library about weather, and learning that stormy weather rarely means tornadoes up in these parts. And now I'm the fucking weather man

Wow, that is intense. Nothing major happened to our house apart from the window screens getting ripped out and some stuff getting thrown around. It still scared more than I thought it would and I ended up feeling scared when second storm was rolling in. I can't imagine how intense it is after living through that.

Yowza shivas! I still get panic attacks after going through hurricane Sandy and several brutal ice storms that dropped huge trees like match sticks. I should probably take your advice.

This afternoon we had a storm and right before it started there was this sound kinda like white noise or an ocean wave that just kept getting louder. I got concerned it was a tornado. It ended up being a hail storm. I could hear it coming for a least a minute.

I was in Cyclone Yasi at ground 0. Everything got shredded. Half the town was destroyed and there were very few trees left standing afterwards. The army had to dig us out with bulldozers on stuff, we were locked in by 10km of blocked road.
Fortunately they flew in with choppers and let us know what was going on, dropped off water and ration packs. The town really pulled together. All the power went out for more than a week and everyones meat defrosted so we had massive community barbecues on the beach. Massive cleanup job afterwards. Lucky we were prepared or people would have died for sure.

I don't recall hearing about Yasi when it happened at that time; It was  only years later when I started concerning myself with climate change that I began observing the brutality of violent weather systems outside of my own backyard. It would probably benefit humanity in general if everyday news channels reported such unfortunate meteorological happenings ( Australia and India to name 2). Most  people are clueless to such things and only concern themselves with their tiny corner of the world. Glad to see you got through Yasi.

No tornadoes but there was a hurricane once when I was on a family camping trip as a kid. When we came back to our tent from the storm shelter thing, a huge tree branch had fallen on it.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/wtop.com/weather-news/2019/05/howard-county-tornado-confirmed-as-ef-1/amp/

Quote:
A day after severe weather pushed through the D.C. area, the National Weather Service has surveyed the damage and concluded that there were two tornadoes Thursday in Maryland.

The weather service confirmed Thursday that a tornado touched down in Howard County, and it announced Friday that it was an EF-1 tornado. NWS confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Frederick County on Friday, as well.

The Frederick county tornado went through my sisters neighborhood but there wasn’t much damage

Howdy Jewchick . Over and up a bit from you (Sussex County NJ) we had a confirmed twister that ruined the day week/ months etc. of many peeps. It used to be that snowstorms were just a part of life. But once march rolled around you could put that aside and start lookin' to spring. But now. Geez, longer winters with ice storms, every weekend for a month and a half! I can't bitch about it because the way Minnesota got hammered this season -but geez! WTF is going on with the weather?

Heard that!

I have not seen a spring like this here ever.  And last summer we were just flooded with endless rain.

Now today after the thunderstorms it isnt past 65 degrees. It is JUNE.

What is happening?! And I have my cactus and pom trees outside and it is getting like low 50's at night.

The amish around here haven't even put their seeds in the ground yet because the ground is too moist and they are afraid of another store to flood them out even more.
