golden teacher problems...
    #2584782 - 04/20/04 09:30 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I seem to be having a hard time getting my GT cakes to fruit. I have done everything the way I am supposed to but they just don't seem like they want to fruit. Currently I am on my 3rd attempt at fruiting and this time I put the jar in the fridge for about 8 hours today in hopes it would initiate some pinning. I am using a fish tank bubbler for air exchange this time instead of fanning half the day (smart idea). my RH is and has always been around 88% - 90% and my temps usually range from 70 -75 degrees. Is there something I am missing? or is the GT strain just a difficult strain to grow for a first timer? I have a syringe of B+ strain that I am going to get going soon. Is the B+ strain easier to grow? Thanks for helping.

What do you mean 3rd attempy at fruiting?

It sounds like you got seriously impatient. How long did you wait for fruiting the 1st and 2nd time?

Are you fruiting inside the jar?

It sounds like the RH could come up to around 98%.

What kind of light exposure?

How long since you started to initiate pinning'

well my first attempt ended short because of green fuzz hehe. The second attempt sort of got these small yellow balls on it, not sure if it was contam or what but no pinning and it was in my chamber for about 4 weeks. This 3rd attempt has just started today and I just got done putting it into my chamber. During the daytime it gets light from outdoors, not direct sunlight either but indirect. And no I am not fruiting inside the jar.

Ok, now wait. 1-2 weeks is the norm.

And yeah, cakes like really really high humidities, though you shouldn't stress about it if you can't.

Don't touch them, and try not to look a them too hard.

Patience.

Well,

I had some problems with Golden Teacher too, the cakes just did not start fruiting.Coldshocking helped but 8h is a bit low I guess,24h are recommended as far as I know but maybe you search shroomery FAQs for coldshocking...right now I can`t really understand why Golden Teacher is always recommended as a beginner strain...my Euquador cakes colonized much faster and fruiting seems to be no problem at all...don`t know.Good luck and don`t give up.

The strain is really unimportant. If you tried many trials with the same strain, you would get variable results as well.

How long is it taking? Sometimes it takes longer if the variables are not ideal. Sometimes it may take a week or longer to get fruits. How about light, are they getting some?

I'd say more humidity and more light. Indirect sunlight is just not enough.

I heard that all you had to do was be able to see the cake and it was getting ample light. Maybe this is wrong but I have read that in many places.

Give it time. Pins don't show in a day. You cold shocked it, now you just give it some time, light, humidity, and nature will do the rest. Worry if no pins in four weeks.
