taming the wild
    #25845519 -

First off ill point out that im a sucker because prior to making shroomery my home base i spent the lot on a guy i met online for mazatapec spore samples and I guess my payment was a donation to his cause not mine...
that being said i hunted down some field nuggets and am trying my best to unfuck the contamnmonster there within .. sounds good on paper but im sure you that are reading this are laughing the laugh of the maddest hatter....not to be confused with the cosmic giggle. anyhoooo... this is happening without agar and is my first grow attempt to witch i will gladly explain my frustration... Have you ever opened a box of crayons and chucked them in your mouth? then spat it into a jar of pc'd white popcorn? me either but i could be sleepwalking lol.
so upon opening the lid on this nightmare im smacked in the nosehole with the smell of two hobos fucking in a shoe box. it smells like a thrown off condom left in the sun. you couldnt pack a miracle in a unicorns ass far enough to be rid of the 30 lb smell packed in a 2 lb bag of the wad of smashed assholes stuffed in this suitcase. I must regress

2 jars with spores for enoc turned black then light red ..two more same. infact out of all attempts with wpc they start fast look good for about 4 days then contamn and stall. I used iso on the top of the shroom and cautiously took tissue samples in gb and the 3 jars of those are all ive got going good atm but time will tell.

aside from practicing am i fighting an a battle i cant win? any of you guys had luck with wild samples?

Can't help you with the actual question to this post because I've never dealt with wild mushrooms.. but I will say thank you for the laughs and vivid descriptions.

Made for a good read :yeahthatsright:

I do not have experience with this, but I willl say, I think you have a very very slim chance of this ever working out.  It’s just not a good technique.

It can be done, probably with ease, with agar.

If you're using any spores edible or not you always put them to agar first... Spores are inherently dirty. Put it to agar and isolate the healthy growth from contams… That is the only way it will work. He didn't screw you over most likely, you screwed yourself by cutting corners. Even if you find wild samples you would still have to put them to agar, otherwise... you guessed it, there will be contams! Agar work is the basis to everything mycology related.

the guy never sent me anything and quit responding to me over a week ago bro.. i got nabbed 100%.
and yes you guys are right the agar is the only realistic method that may work with what I have to work with. ill get some ordered and we'll go from  there

on a side not the above post was mostly a venting of steam for witch im glad to have been heard lol.. but for real though ill get back in this thread with some agar and we will see if we cant get something going from the wild ones..its become a personal quest to me at this point....

What wild ones do you believe you have? Better get an ID on it.

I think that’s going to be hard for you.  Wild genetics are... wild.  You’re literally talking about domesticating a variety which I assume will take many many plates and test crops and clones.  Good luck with that, even the most seasoned cultivators avoid that with reason.

Why don’t you just get a print from another member... lots of people give them away all the time.

If you haven't even started agar yet then isolating and domestication is probably out of your skillset, not that you can't learn it though.

are you doing this for the challenge? i don't get why people do things the long and hard way. you can very easily order spore syringes. i inoculate right to the grains, no agar, and i've been succesful 12 out of 12 times. I also use pre packaged grains so i don't have to do all the extra work and buy all the extra equipment. everyone on here will say i'm a fool for doing so but again, 12 out of 12 successes so far. so why go through all the extra work to increase your chance of success by a percentage point or two when 90% (or 100% in my case) of the time these work fine?

Define “successful”

Did you get canopies?  What was your dry yield per quart jar?

i do bulk grows in a tub. the first flush almost always canopies, i average about 3 full flushes from each, and a rough estimate on yield is about 4 ounces dry per tub. i hear stories about 1 pound yields. is that linked to working with agar or something?

One pound off a single tub would have to be one big tub with like 12+ quarts of spawn. And agar definitely helps. You can take clones and get the cleanest spawn and more, all increasing potential yeilds.

Generally, 1 dry oz first flush per quart of spawn used is about average. Dudes that have serious skill can pull 2oz dry per quart. Possibly more.

It has more to do with selecting, cloning, isolating genetics and having perfect conditions that get yield like that.

Agar can definitely benefit your grows in so many ways. You will never be able to clone or isolate without it. I know Pastywhyte had a GT isolate he said averaged 12-14 oz first flush in 66qt mono. You can keep shooting spores directly into presteralized bags but believe me your going to run into issues. I used to do the same thing and and my first 10 jars went good but next round only 5 were worth spawning. I’d say around 70% of the time it goes right but then your still pretty much garenteed bacteria, it probably wont kill your grow but healthy mycelium will preform better. I thought agar was going to be a bitch but now I kinda enjoy it.

im in central fl ...so far in our searches we found only one that fits a p cubensis .. it was growing out of a cow pie . when picked it turned blue where the stem was damaged. it had a purple veal and the print was purple violet .. i didnt get a pic fresh but ill get a couple here later today.
where i took tissue samples also turned green blue.
I know im fighting against all odds but am also using the situation to learn. i got a variety of grains in bulk amounts and a good supply of tubs and jars. the pressure cooker hurt the bank. I bought a power pressure cooker kl. after buying all my sups and spores itll be a while b4 i can order spores again ... def learned my lesson on ordering from an unknown source lol..

As far as getting a print from another fellow member ...I certainly wouldnt turn one down thats for sure. So if anyone feels like helping a poor new guy out pleas hit me up lol.

As far as the agar yes ill order some and keep studying up on it...I need to learn it eventually anyway..besides I like a challenge .. the wild one and I will learn to get along eventually lol

Thanks everyone for the responses its always muck appreciated ..Ill post some pictures later this afternoon

Wild prints are super dirty. Dirtier than any prints you'll ever get a hold of. It is possible to skip agar, but you will lose a lot to contamination. So much so, that it's not a smart thing to skip agar when working with wild prints.

Easiest is to clone from the wild mushroom, and then print. Put those prints up on the marketplace, I'm sure you'll get lots of trade offers.

Totally  agree man...so far i got 12 jars going..all but 3 are contamned ....a couple are fighting a green mold..the rest of the lot keep getting a light red mold.all the lot are contam except 2 of my 3 clone jars. one of the three clones looked ok till this am and now looks a lil red on one side....but the other 2clones are looking good. only bout 1/8 colonized and growth is slow but thick. the 3 clones are in white popcorn thats been pc'd for 1:30 min.
every time i go out ill print what i can and save them...soon as i can get in market place ill see if i can trade some off...

on a side note the one i found is def a cubensis (not that i wasnt sure of it) ...I ate it last night. it was a little under 1.5 grams dry. I sat in my room in the dark silence and of many many things that went through my mind the fact that i need to quit smoking cigaretts came at me like a freight train..it was deep. i could feel my body and the mushroom both take part in this "we love you dance, but you gota lay that shit down".... it was deep deep...it was most of the experience ......it wouldnt let go about it. Ive been smoking for 25 years....I guess its time to toss it.. I wish i could explain it better but its hard to put in words ya know? It was like I could see "It/them" not just tell me this but fold and peal the layers of the addiction off and out of my soul ... now though i feel the need to light one up it seems this disgusting act of destruction ....not just the taste but in my deeper self.....its like someone wiped their dirty ass crack on my pack of smokes and then did some dirty spell over them lol... like i said, i wish i could explain it better but im sure you guys get what im saying.....

Hey check out my friend vikingsc. Its either his journal or post about his room grow. He has awesome techniques that allow you to work in open air and no pour agar so you can experiment without the expensive equipment. Ask him questions on his no pour jars with self healing pourts, he does liquid culture and a SAB with his no pour no open agar technique. When he does have to open it he uses his SAB... Check it out, wish I knew his technique when I first started.
