Military Pub Members?
    #25817296 -

Anyone here in the pub ever served in the military?

I was recruited for a mission that never was.

A Marine Force Recon retired (and felon) wanted to grow cannabis in Virginia and sell it to high ranking military Officers for their slush funds.

They wouldn't take me cause I was on Paxil and didn't say I was using cannabis.  I knew the first time I smoked weed I couldn't become a seal.  A friend said nobody cares about those guys.

He's a lawyer now.

Dad was drafted in '65.  His brother was an MP.  Their Uncle was Milton Frank Pavlic.

Cousin was also a loadmaster.  Now he's a drunk and an accountant.

Hung out at the legion a lot.  It didn't seem to make much sense.

I think for myself and that's not very good for military service.  So I duck low a lot in life.  Seems military service is very bad for a lot of people.  Being dependent on it somewhat and not knowing how to maintain civilian life.

If the military doesn't yell at you for something, it's that they can understand other things.  I think that is what I admire about my image of intelligent people.  Yet everyone has this private delusion about what they hope for.

People get into a lot of trouble not being able to verbalize their dream.  Having secret missions and such.  It doesn't seem to go well for anyone(life).

It troubles me.

hard to disagree with that some people just get trapped in the whole cycle of joining and everything and cant really do anything besides tough it out

There's a lot asked of them.  They really cannot be everywhere at once, and likely feel a strong connection to 'astral thoughts'.

It's hard to explain and carry out well.

My brother in law is a retired Seal that is now a Jesus freak with a nasty opiate habit. Treats my sister like shit. My dad was marine recon...I loved the guy like crazy, he taught me alot about shooting , tracking, navigating and life in general.

I have respect for vets because of him.

Not me. I have friends that were in the military. Some are normal civilians now.  A couple are fucked up. One is schizophrenic the other has a very crude sense of humor and outlook on life.

Only male out of like 3 or 4 generations to not enlist. Tried to join the Marines when I was 17 and then the AF when I was 21.

I have mad respect for vets though as long as they don't pull the whole I fought for you to *insert negative representation of whatever your doing* shit. My brother did that to me once when he was drunk and it was basically I fought for you to dress like a prom queen (referring to my long hair at the time) and I immediately lost a great deal of respect for him

My other brother is in the AF and has been for 20 years or so. I miss him the most because he has always been sensible.

I was a dual-national living in England with my mom when my Dad moved to Florida and I joined the U.S army in '75 and began smoking pot in Panama when there was no test for it. I did my 3 years and got busted 3 times for possession but was still offered sergeant stripes opportunity if I re-enlisted. There was privates in there who were lifers and never hoped to gain rank. Definitely an experience during a golden age of peacetime war-games.

Ya they wouldn't let their people in Vietnam leave without passing a drug test.  I think lot's became serial tour vets.

I knew a guy who's father was a Marine who did 3 tours in Vietnam.  He was a med chopper pilot.  He drank a lot and never cleaned his house, but worked a job.  His son joined and worked on tanks.

Nobody could ever tell what my Dad did.  He only did 2 years but he was an interesting looking guy in a pic I saw.  Dad had handle bars and two bottles of booze.  I never could understand his stories.  He said he wore blue jeans and civilian clothes in Vietnam and rode along with the Navy brown water gun boats.

Another friend who we don't speak anymore and I talk about often.  His Dad directed air traffic on the radio.  He slept with a prostitute and I think it bothers him.  His son just wanted to be a hippy and now cannot get clean.

I think it's a shame how vets are treated.  People really hate them but they don't show it to their face usually.  People hate me just as easily.  Making small little fuck up's something bigger than they are.

I kinda feel like stocking up on food a bit.  Don't know where things will go.  Everyone feels very secure having a gun and everyone else having a gun.  I don't trust those things much.
