I was watching a documentary about him. He rediscovered mdma. He said something at one point:

People have receptors that react to psychoactive compounds.

The reason for this might be evolution.

Some long forgotten branch might have evolved the ability to produce psychoactive molecules.

They might have looked at a tigers saber tooth noticing the interesting design nature chose for it.

Natural selection pressure for survival made us lose the ability to produce those compounds but we still have the receptors for them. Same story with the appendix.

Interesting theory.

Maybe. But are there actually any types of receptors in our bodies that no endogenous compounds interact with?

Good question.

Maybe the psychoactive ones were slowly replaced with less psychedelic ones, over time.

Cool, I've heard of it but haven't seen it, will try to check it out soon. I've read PIHKAL and TIHKAL though. "DMT is Everywhere" is one of my favorite chapters in TIHKAL.

He's a really interesting character.

He worked for Dow Chemicals and made the company some millions of dollars with some insecticides he discovered.

Then the company just left him alone to do whatever he wanted.

MDMA had been discovered by somebody else working at Dow in the 1910s. It was ignored.

He found it in the archives.

Alexander Shulgin created a lot of novel compounds.
All of his books are interesting, my favorites are Pihkal, Thikal and The Simple Plant Isoquinolines

It was discovered by the germans in 1912, confiscated by the US along with all their stuff after WW2 I believe and then that’s how Shulgin somehow ran across it but the Germans get credit for MDMA.

He had a license by the DEA to possess and synthesize illegal chemicals. Half the reason he was pivitol in the resurrection and discovery of so many chemicals is because he had this free pass by the government as a research element into discovering novel psychedelics prior to their discovery on the street. They wanted him to synthesize existing and new chemicals so that they could be aware of them and have samples of them prior to any becoming popular in the black market.

The irony being that all this information is public knowledge and sped up their introduction to the public in the grand scheme of things.

I felt bad for the dude too when people went “mainstream” with the mdma, you know the mainstream where people get fuckin retarded and things like salvia get banned.  Not sure if it’s true but through body language I felt like that in particular was a kick in the nutts for him.

I think he saw other plans for that shit..

I still can't believe I haven't rolled. I like to do drugs by myself because i hate situations where people who don't have experience end up controlling the situation by freaking out or just being weird, and I've had that happen way too many times and MDMA has always been a "do it with other people or don't do it at all" type thing so I never sought it out enough to do it

Back when I was 18 i polled a blue Buddha with some friends but it didn't do anything. Then when I was 25 i got great MDMA in powder form but just never did it for some reason so I just gave it away.

I'm just way too loyal too my psychedelics. I love them so much :heart:

It's difficult to KNOW what the grand design has in store for these.

Usually historically, visions were necessary for survival.  Without a vision we just sit there and wait to die.  SO if we get close enough to death, we have a vision, to go on and move forward.

However not all visions are good and THAT TOO serves a purpose.  We NEED good visions and our dreams are decaying.

Most people don't have any visions there entire life so they read endlessly about other peoples historical acts and visions.

TV has largely robbed people of freedom of thought.  SO easily programed.  So easily advised.  Drugs don't magically make that better, it takes a LOT of experience.

It's not like these drugs were meant for us.  We just know how to use them.  They can get you what you want, which is usually a mystery without a vision.

It’s kinda lame and the come down sucks.  If you like tryptamines or acid you’ll probably fell like something is missing.  It’s cool to chip throughout the day a few times but other than that it’s not that great..

People seem to do that shit up though so maybe I’m missing something..
