Is Kratom a deadly drug or a supplement? (Bullshit from Fox News)
    #25574066 -

A natural plant that is used to reduce pain and recovering drug addicts has been linked to fatal overdoses.

The drug is native to southeast Asia, and it has been used as a natural healer in tea for hundreds of years. However, some believe the drug is dangerous.

Kratom is a plant with a strong following on either side and surging in popularity.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) identified 15 deaths connected to Kratom from 2014 to 2016. The FDA records at least 44 Kratom related deaths in the last decade.

One of these deaths is 27-year-old Christopher Waldron. His mother, Laura Lamon says he was her only son and the love of her life.

On July 17th, 2017 she got a call from Tampa police.

“He [policeman] said your son is deceased. I lost it. I just started yelling and I don't remember much after that,” Lamon said.

Lamon thought that he had overdosed on narcotics, but a month later she received an autopsy report that indicated the cause of death was intoxication by Kratom, according to the Hillsborough medical examiner.

"I was shocked and then when I got it I thought what is this? I had found some things in his room and I saw the packages of what he had taken but I didn't know much about it,” Lamon said.

Director of SalusCare Steven Hill says one of the biggest dangers with Kratom is that it’s not regulated or monitored.

“You never know exactly what your'e getting. anything could be in the packaging. There could be different levels of the active substance,” Hill said.

Lamon believes that if the plant was properly labeled, her son would have survived.

“There was no label on it at all. it didn't have a dosage amount, didn't have a warning label, didn't say don't mix it with this or that, if you have this condition, or whatever. a bottle of Tylenol has that on there,” Lamon said.

She says that it is so devastating because her son didn’t want to die.

“It absolutely should be banned, it’s like playing a game of roulette,” Steven Hill, director of SalusCare, said.

Adrianna Marrone, manager of Up in Smoke in the Cape says Kratom came to the U.S. recently, and now it’s one of their best sellers.

“Just to help with the aches and pains and anxiety and depression,” Marrone said.

A former addict, Amanda Raska, says that Kratom helped her overcome drugs.

“He told me about Kratom and that day I tried and I never touched another pill, it literally saved my life,” Rasksa said.

Raska said she started using Kratom five months ago when a friend who was also an addict told her about it. Before using the plant, she couldn’t get out of bed without taking prescription pills.

“It was a horrible life, I have 5 kids so i could not even take care of my children,” Raska said.

She said that she grew up on around addicts and has an addictive personality, but said Kratom isn’t addicting. If she goes without it, there’s no symptoms of withdrawal.

Steven Hill says that he saw firsthand how people react to the drug.

“It’s happened on our detox where people are coming in and the issue is with Kratom,” Hill said.

Hill said the experience of taking Kratom can be described as a quick down feeling followed by hallucinations and visualizations.

In 2016, there were less than 100 poison control calls regarding the drug, and by the middle of 2018, the number of calls were approaching 700.

“So we're seeing more and more use and we're seeing the health concerns and health issues also go up. ER visits spiked,” Hill said.

In August 2016, the DEA announced an intent to ban Kratom, but after strong reaction from the public, it was labeled as pending analysis.

“We've seen and heard of people who have very bad reactions. people who have had to be hospitalized,” Hill said.

Fuck Faux News and their bullshit

Edit: I'll paste my post here because too many read the article and not the comments

Here's a very important related article about the "overdose" death that was recorded explaining other important factor in the death the coroner didn't take into account such as a heart condition and two prescribed medications that are contradicted against being used together with someone who has such a condition

Holy fucking shit I don't know what this Hill guy is on but that sounds nothing like Kratom. Hallucinations and visualizations? You gotta love how the news can just make 99% of a story up.

I guarantee you almost all Kratom related deaths were due to people having other drugs in their system. Kratom is extremely safe. The worst thing that can happen is a very mild form of opioid withdrawal from daily use. Extremely rarely people develop thyroid problems from long term, heavy usage, but thats about it.

I don't imagine you can realistically overdose on Kratom. I think you would throw up before that happened. Wait where did you hear about thyroid problems. I would love to read the article. Because thyroid problems actually sounds pretty bad.

I'd be surprised to see thyroid disorders legitimately being pinned on kratom use.

I have 3 years experience of daily Kratom use and no issues yet. I took 2 weeks off cold turkey, as an experiment, because I read about the side effects. Maybe I am unique, but I had absolutely ZERO withdrawals and ZERO side effects and ZERO cravings. I used to smoke weed all the time and quit, mainly because it is banned and didn't want to limit my hiring ability or end up in jail. However, if I didn't smoke weed every day, then I didn't benefit from it and I definitely had cravings, but smoking made the cravings go away (obviously).

Another thing I personally like about Kratom, is that I can use it and go to work and social events and I don't feel paranoid that people will be aware that I consumed something that they may not approve of. I suppose if I had to make a complaint about kratom, it would be that the more I use, the more likely I am to go to sleep. I've worked my way up to higher and higher doses, up to about a small plastic level spoonful, and now I'm down to about a pinch a day, because I've been feeling tired lately and I'm checking to see if that helps, but I also work VERY hard in physical labor at my job.

The thing I like MOST about Kratom, is that it somehow seems to destroy the feeling of wanting to get high on something. So for many years now, I have not had even a few seconds of wanting to get high or trip on anything. First I went to vaping CBD and that was great, but harsh on my throat. Kratom so far, seems like the perfect thing to me because it is easy on my body and Gaia Ethnobotanical has insane quality and insane prices (I've tried several vendors and I stopped once I discovered these guys). Their powder is ultra fine ground.

I am not going to recommend anyone to start taking Kratom. Some people are allergic to peanuts, some people eat tons of peanuts every day and talk about how great they are. Find what solves your health problems with the absolute minimal side effects and hope it is cheap enough to be cost effective. I've tried so many legal/gray-area/banned things that I can't list them all here. My goal was always what I just said, cheap, effective, healthiest, with little or no side effects. If they ban Kratom, I don't know what I will do.

I read a few months back that Fox News, in Canada can not be called news, it is “late night entertainment” because it’s all bullshit like all the major news organisations in the U.S

Can anyone in Canada confirm?

Its a no brainer these deaths were from mixing other drugs with kratom. I don't know what the LD is, but I overdosed too many times. I just threw up and fell asleep. I got a headache if I was unlucky! Those weasels are going to bribe and do whatever they have to do to have it banned. No matter what the final decision is, the fight wont be over

You know the DEA got super butthrt when they tried to schedule Kratom and were denied. I never found Kratom much like Opiates at all. To me it was more equivalent to an energy drink and a little benzo mixed together. Some sedation that is almost overtaken by the Coffee like effect.

I tried it maybe 20x, never liked it much. The best thing it offered me was a mood enhancer. It did put me in a better mood than I otherwise might be. It also gave minor\safe but unpleasant side effects like nausea and burping up that nasty Kratom taste for hours.

Nah, kratom was even the reason for the Pittsburgh shooting lol! kratom is great when its at its best! I used to have problems with side effects but its starting to diminish. It can get u through hard times and it can make times hard. Its all about discipline and control, like with anything else. Feeling good is not a crime!!! If I didn't use kratom I may be 300 lbs, drinking beer, and watching trump campaigns

Yeah if I take a buttload of kratom and start falling a sleep I can have some pretty sweet visuals when I hit that hypnogogic state. That's about it. Not really all that dangerous I suppose since I don't really interact with society when I'm sleeping anyways.

I seen fractals once and had some mild opium dreams. This whole ordeal is caused by self interest. Its all about supporting and serving the elite so they can sit up there indulging in boring ass rigid cocktail parties making enough money to play golf for a lifetime! Greed itself resembles drug addiction. This shit is all a joke!

That is some supreme big pharma propaganda. Kratom is not dangerous, it is just hurting their bottom line. I've been buying kratom from https://kratomspot.com/ for the past few years. They've been a solid source and not once have I had an even mild side effect.

That shits exspensive af yo. You might want to try a new vendor. I know this is off topic, but I couldnt just sit idly by and watch you get ripped off like that...
