I think you are misinterpreting what i say. I said, anyone can write a young
adult fantasy fiction novel. Not, anyone can write an exciting story. YA fantasy
fiction is a pretty specific genre and only needs to have a 5th grade reading level,
so I'll rephrase to, anyone with a high school education can write twilight, to
make my meaning more easily understood.

Anyone can write one? Big deal? What's your point? Not anyone can write a great one. Just because it's YA fantasy doesn't mean it's not great. Come down from your ivory tower.

So are you saying that twilight is a great book? Wow my ivory tower is a mole
hill, but apparently to average americans, saying twilight doesnt belong in top
20s(70s but still) of 100 greatest books for americans to read list puts you in a tower :lol:

I think you may be proving my point even more.

I don't know. I've never read it. It's one of America's favorite books, though, as established by the list, which was the whole point of the program. No one is saying it's great from the standpoint of literary critics, but it's great in the sense that it has entertained millions. There are many lists of critics' favorite books. It was high time to compile one based off of all Americans' preferences.

I get that, my only point is that just because millions of people love it, it
does not make it great. Millions of people love the kardashians, would you say
it's a good show? Popular drivel is easy to make, and Americans love eating
popular drivel right up, which is apparent by the list.

Still thanks for posting! Not all the books on that list are shite, just surprised to
see less of what I consider to be a great read. No adult should put charlottes
web as their 7th favorite book. I read that in 4th grade. I guess to some people it
has a sentimental place in their heart but still.

@sara- as far as I understood it, outlander is about a nurse who time travels
back in time and falls in love. Definitely sounds like YA fiction to me
but since I havent read the series, I could be wrong

The contest is for all Americans, not adult Americans. Again, if popular "drivel" is so easy to make, then everyone would do it and make off with millions, like Diana Gabaldon did. What's stopping you?
