Garden Lime
    #2552764 - 04/12/04 11:05 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

So I picked up some Garden Lime at Lowe's. Now its not Hydrated Lime but it says oon the package that it is safer than Hydrated Lime. The analysis says:

Calcium= 20%
Magnesium= 10%
Calcium Oxide= 52%
magnesium Oxide= 17%
Calcium Carbonate= 29%
Magnesium Carbonate= 35%
this equals 163% which i know its usual to have more then 100% on anything really which makes no sense to me to me at all so if anyone knows why that is then please let me know.

the Calcim Carbonate equivilant is 93 and the efective neutralizeing value is 88 and the effective nuetralizing power is 86.
I don't know what that means either.

My overall question would be, will this stuff substitute for Hyrated Lime and if so does anyone know how i would gauge how much to use since its different than hydrated lime. it is in pellet form also. thankyou for any help.

I would crush up the pellets and use them as a powder, that
way they will mix in better. You want to get a pH of 6.8 - 7.2.
So you will have to play about with amounts, untill you get it
right.

Its easyer to start by adding less, rather than more.
So start with small amounts mixed in well, the test for ph.
