Jeff Dowd AKA "the dude"

he was the inspiration for the dude in the big lebowski. He was cool as shit, and very knowledgable about the film industry (he is a writer/producer after all). He also said that in the Big Lebowski, the main part that they nailed about his personality were his mannerisms, such as the way he sits (laaaaaaid back) and his hand gestures etc.

Long story short, it was cool to meet this guy :smile:

. Oh, and the line in movie where the dude says "You know the seattle seven.....that was me". Well i always thought that was a joke, but it's not, Jeff was actually one of the Seven. He was a political activist in his early days. Nice little bit of trivia.

awsome man
i remember u told me a while ago u wer gonna meet him
ad so yestersay i deciced to rent the movie
exept i dont have a car or a bike and skating there would take like 3 hr
but oh well il get it today

any way thats awsome man
i wish i could meet him that is one of the best movies and charictors of all time

does the plot to the story haver any truth to it

The Big Lebowski is one of my favorite movies of all time. The Dude is fucking awesome. I wish I was like him.

im almost positive the story was just built around his character. its the classic noir/detective story, but the twist is the dude is completely inept and doesn't has a firm grasp on what's going on around him. usually the noir hero (at least the detective) is able to manipulate the other characters around him to get things to work in his favor. just watch some Bogart movies and you'll see what i mean (Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep).

great idea for the plot though, throw some average joe into a complex story and watch him bumble his way through it....i love the coen brothers :smile:

How'd you get the chance to meet him? If this is in another thread that I missed, sorry.

I'm a huge fan of that movie.
