Suspected Lepista
    #25509686 -

It looks like Lepista nuda or Lepista sordida to me but I was surprised to find it in this habitat, so I'm not sure.

Habitat:
Ireland, at about 400m, up in the mountains in the heather.

Gills:
Crowded, purple/lilac

Stem:
10x45mm, lilac with fine white fibrils, flesh is purple throughout.

Cap:
45mm, purple/lilac, slightly brownish at the centre, feels smooth.

Spore print color:
Waiting.

Bruising:
none

Other information:
Tastes mild, sweetish aftertaste, smells mealy (I think, I'm not sure if that's the moss I'm smelling).

Just peeking under the cap, the spore print appears to be coming out a pale colour, but I don't want to lift it just yet. It's not rusty brown or anything like that anyway.

The spore print doesn't look white to me.  It might be a cort. Maybe let it sit overnight to drop more spores.  It appears to have an orange tint.

I'd call it Clitocybe nuda. It's not a Cortinarius. Very beautiful color on this specimen!

No, it’s not orange, it’s pale pink or light skin colour, consistent with Lepista. Here’s a picture in better light.

Yes, that’s what I was thinking, or Lepista nuda, same thing. But I thought they only grow in forests or hedgerows?

Well, they usually do, but if it's humid enough, and the substrate has enough woody material in it (and it looks like it does in the picture), then they'll grow anywhere. I often find them on the edge of a forest path, in grass.

That tree isn’t typical of the landscape though, and it wasn’t near the mushroom. I took that picture because the tree looked so out of place, just like this mushroom.

I was thinking more of those heather stems, they are quite woody. I don't know what else it could be, L. sordida looks different.
