I'm curious. Does anyone else out here think Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd is absolutely terrible like I do? I hate this albulm. Anyone in solidarity with me?

The first time I tripped, I listened to this album - over, and over, and over again.
That said, it does kinda suck.

Yeah, not a big fan of the syd barret(sp?) years. When the dead get tripped out, the music flows, but when early floyd played it was just, I don't know, bad.

LOL!
Man, you guys have made my day. Finally I found some people on my wavelength.
All of the songs on that albulm are so trivial. Songs about gnomes and who knows what else. LA LA LA I like gnomes, who cares.

Agreed. Top three!
Come on, nothing touches Floyd's first album as far as whimsical, classic psychadelic rock&roll goes!
Syd wrote all those goofy lyrics as stream of consciousness -- he never crumpled up lyrics and threw them away, he just used whatever his wacked out mind produced at the time. There's something to be said for that. Like pure experience - no filtering.

Is that a fact?
I'm inclined to believe you. It seems like Syd had never heard of "editing" or "revising" (or "improving").

How can you not like songs like "Lucifer Sam", with it?s James Bond-esq sound and the trippy instrumental "Interstellar Overdrive"?
The entire album is good to me. It?s so smooth and cool. "PATGOD" is the entire reason I got into Floyd. I didn?t like them that much before I heard it. Then I slowly got into the other albums(I still can?t listen to anything past "Wish You Were Here" or "The Wall").

Those songs barely qualify as music to me. Hey, I like Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason. I think MLoR has some great songs on it. The only song somewhat okay on PATGOD is the one about the gnome, but even then I can't stand it. It's just not my music. It's not only that, but I can barely even consider most of the music on that albulm to be "music." Sounds like a band practicing in a poor attempt at playing music. I just don't get the appeal of it. When I heard that albulm, I think, "Thank god Barrett left the fucking band. He was an idiot." To each their own.

Are You Fuckin Kidding Me?! what's wrong with you people? there would be no pink floyd without syd barret. he was a fuckin amazing musician and is way better than david gilmore in terms of creativity and audio psychedelia. in my opinon david gilmore is just a wanna be syd barret. most of their stuff ,when gilmore was in, was a tribute to Syd Barret anyway. they should have named the band something different when syd left because it isn't the same band. totally different sounds. the syd era was PINK FLOYD. but don't get me wrong i do enjoy a good bit of the later years but like i said before, in terms of creativity and abstract sound, barret is far better.
just my 2 cents... Psilostylin'

Well, I disagree. I think Syd sucks. He wasn't a genius. I don't care how innovative the noise he put out was, it didn't sound good. The lyrics were absolutely retarded. I don't buy the 'Syd was a genius' myth. Fuck Syd barret. Post-Waters Pink Floyd is still at least 20 times better than Syd Barrett Pink Floyd.
That cat's something I can't explain, blah blah blah the song's aren't about anything. The "innovative" music sounds stupid. Big fucking deal. I can make noise and spew stupid shit lyrics out while under the influence. Yeah, very creative. What a genius. Sure.
Gilmour a wannabe barrett? WTF? They sound nothing alike. Get your head checked.

He sucks.
Piper sucks too imo.
The lyrics are so trivial and pseudo-spirital. Its a joke, we wouldnt have the pink floyd we have today if Syd was still in the band thats for sure....
"Whoopee you cant see me but...I...can....you......" "I've got a bike you can ride it if you like....."
I even like stupid/silly songs like early Beatles and such.....but those lyrics ^^ are teh sux.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is one of the best albums I've ever listened to under the influence. It goes well with DXM and mushrooms. Interstellar Overdrive is probably my favorite instrumental freak-out of all time. A madman is only mad because you can't understand what he's saying.
