Nooo! What you are describing is frisson.
Also fun, but the differences are:

ASMR doesn't seem to have any somatic effects, certainly nothing as pronounced as goosebumps.
Frisson is caused, as you say, by awesome things.
ASMR can be caused by watching an elderly man count how many aspirins are left in the tub.

Also ASMR seems to have a lot of mental effects, such as perhaps a release of endorphins, resulting in an elated state of increased focus, helps you sleep, helps you relax, feels kinda like a mild electric shock being applied to a very specific part of your body, usually in time with the audio.

These "tingles", at least in my experience, are quite rare, they might happen once or twice for every half hour you spend watching the video. These are like, the ultimate ASMR experience, but many of the relaxing, focusing effects occur at levels of ASMRness way below that which is required to cause actual tingles.

I believe that music causes these things for you, what I do question is whether or not this is ASMR.

Dissociatives, psilocybin, inhaling butane, hypoxia, nitrous oxide, ASMR, nice music, finding 1lb of cocaine in a plastic bag in the street, etc... All of these things have the potential to cause the effects you described, but they aren't all ASMR.

ASMR isn't just a term defining these feelings, ASMR is a term defining a phenomenon whereby these feelings are caused by certain visual and auditory triggers.

No, I don't have the power to dictate what can and what cannot cause ASMR however, I would say that if music causes these things for you, this doesn't mean that you're an unusual person who gets ASMR from music, it may have nothing to do with ASMR, it may be frisson, "eargasms", a completely new phenomenon that has not yet been documented, or simply signs of happiness that you're enjoying the music.


Also, you said you get it from listening to songs you love.
As far as I'm aware, ASMR doesn't really care if you like the song or not.
I get ASMR from certain songs (such as The Wind by PJ Harvey, and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd), not because I like them (although I like the Pink Floyd one), but because the first one contains whispering, and the second one has a nice guitar solo at the start which is tingly.

Anyway, I can cause it to happen without any stimulus. For me thinking about the experience of having asmr is enough to cause an asmr episode

I've always called it "the chills"...but I suppose ASMR does have a more "clinical" sound to it.
