Sporeless oyster culture
    #25031941 -

Hello friends. I’ve been away from the forum for a long while. Well it’s great to be back. I’m looking into a sporeless oyster culture. I’m starting back up growing gourmet mushrooms again and have no choice but to cultivate indoors in our living space. I don’t want to harm our newborn baby girl or either my wife or i with the spore load that the oysters are known to produce so does anyone know where I could source a culture? Thanks in advance my friends and look forward to getting back into the trade, grow log to come when I get find something and I’ll be sure to share with the community. Thanks guys!

I contacted their Arizona branch today. The guy said they don’t offer it or any oyster for that matter... said the European branch probably does but would be cost prohibitive.

They do exist but you are going to pay out the ass for one. Isolate some spores maybe you will get lucky and get a sporeless strain. I mean someone has done it before. The sky is the limit

Homegrown.nl supposedly has the culture.

Where I work sporeless oysters are being grown, but the only reason apparently is that sporulating oysters can apparently yield filaments under the caps according to my colleage (never seen those). Possibly those filaments are germinated spores?

We grow them using commercial spawn.
I guess you could try using what little spores this does produce to try and isolate your own culture but that would probably be a painstaking process.
As was said, for the commercial culture you are probably going to pay quite a bit of moneys.

What are the dangers of spores.. respiratory issues?.. and do regular Oysters really sporulate that much before their prime harvest time?

The oysters are notorious for producing massive amounts of spores, even when harvested prematurely they still dump a pile of them. Once the allergy is developed , even a small amount of spores inhaled will induce major flu like symptoms and respiratory distress. RR has several post describing his experience with the side effects. I have a newborn baby girl and am really concerned with how it will effect her and us as well. I’m amazed there isn’t a sporeless isolate floating around here with how popular oysters are. If I can get my hands on one I plan to spread it around the shroomery community. It would greatly benefit a lot of us.

It's a Dutch thing. I posted a link to a 'hobbyist' that is probably selling a clone of the original.
Sylvan is the Dutch company that owns the patent.
