Share a story of triumph * 1

... no matter how big or small.

This time last year I was unemployed, living with my parents, attending outpatient rehab and physically dependent on Suboxone. My relationship with my girl was strained, we were trying to hold it together long-distance while I coped with my demons and the decisions I had made.

I kept my head low and persevered - I had no choice but to move forward and leave the past behind me.

Fast forward to today... I have a career in my field, we are renting a beautiful house, and my fiancée and I are once again close and strong in our relationship. My family trusts me, I have money saved, and I'm able to feel good without chemically inducing it. I am actually looking forward to the future rather than fearing it and running from it. It feels good to have triumphed over those demons that nearly destroyed my life entirely.

Sounds corny but I love these boards, they're like a home away from home full with interesting personalities and people to talk to when struggling or just having a great day. I would love to hear some of your struggles/triumphs, don't be shy.

I decided on my 20th birthday that I wanted to learn to play guitar. Ten years later now I am in a band, we've played shows, and are 80% done recording our first album. I taught myself how to play, how to record, and how to produce music in that time. Playing guitar was just a dream of mine and I never thought I would make it this far.

dropped out of high skool dropped out of college, spit at cop cars and have a criminal record, couldnt find an apartment that would rent me, now i bought a house before the age of 25, always told myself as a kid that i would be dead by then... funny.

i also woke up this morning with a bit of back pain but still i feel healthy and grateful nonetheless, that is a triumph above all else.

Triumph was a Canadian hard rock band that was popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s, building on its reputation and success as a live band. Between the band's 16 albums and DVDs, Triumph has received 18 gold and 9 platinum awards in Canada and the United States. Triumph was nominated for multiple Juno Awards, including Group of the Year Award in 1979, 1985, 1986 and 1987.

Triumph is most known for its guitar-driven rock songs, such as "Lay It on the Line", "Magic Power", "Fight the Good Fight" and "World of Fantasy." The band was formed by Toronto music veterans Gil Moore (drums, vocals), Mike Levine (bass, keyboards), and Rik Emmett (guitar, vocals) in 1975. This lineup, spanning nine studio albums, lasted until 1988, when Emmett left the band to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by Phil "X" Xenedis, and Triumph recorded only one album with him, which remains their last to date, before going on indefinite hiatus in 1993. The classic original lineup of Moore, Levine and Emmett reunited for two live concerts in 2008.

Years ago back when I actually used facebook during Highschool, some girl a barely knew posted a funny feminist post. It went something like:

"To guys who think that a girls place is in the kitchen, don't forget what's where we keep our knives!" followed by winky faces, etc...

Well I was really baked and couldn't resists replying:

"For sandwiches?" :rofldrunk:

People thought it was hilarious and the girl got super butt hurt, she commented something about making a sandwich out of my dick then deleted most of it :eek:

No regrets though, I still get a good laugh out of it years later. I am all for feminism as well but it's hard to resist when girls take it really far.

My dad has Triumph tr3-A. Looks pretty much like this.
My brother built the engine. Over bored with a cam upgrade. I rebuilt the transmission, gauges, set up the carbs and got everything in tune.

Now I basically get to drive it whenever I want. It's a pretty fun ride. White knuckle in todays traffic.

Halfway through college I decided a wanted to pursue science instead of business. I busted my ass taking harder sciences as electives. Seven years later, after back-breaking work through grad school playing catch up to my colleagues, my mom actually came to see my thesis defense. I gave my presentation, then waited in the hall beside her. My advisor walked out of the room, stuck out his hand said: "Let me be the first to congratulate you Dr. _____, nice work."

I married my high school sweetheart--and stuck it out.

Close to 20 years ago she started experiencing unrelenting depression. Many bad things ensued, but I never for a minute thought she was a bad person. 

I held onto my ass, doubled down and worked really hard at providing her everything that she could need to be well and couldn't be more happy with my decision.

Close to three decades in, she is the most wonderful person I've ever known. I present this account in the context of triumph because at any point I could have thrown in the towel. It was an enormous struggle at times but it was so worthwhile. In a time where everything and everyone seems disposable I'm proud to have stuck it out and feel privileged that she picked me.
