Betcha never seen a rock that looks like this ever before.. (abandoned and likely haunted mine) * 3
    #24796297 -

I posted this in the outdoors forum but not much traffic there and anyway I thought the pub would like this too.

I found this today while hiking to a waterfall along the Niagara Escarpment in SE Ontario, real nice one too the first drop is 72ft, actually here’s a pic of the beast. Great swimming spot.

I was on my way to this creepy as fuck hills-have-eyes-type-shit abandoned mine that I heard was finally accessible.

Yea it’s accessible but I absolutely did not have the balls to go in by myself lol. There’s supposed to be a hell of a lot of tunnels in there tho so as soon as the water freezes me and the crew are buying that ticket and taking that ride! You can’t see the end of the first tunnel from outside the gate no matter how strong your flashlight is.. Also no idea what they were mining in there but I keep meaning to find out. Probably human organs or something.

Anyway so I’m walkimg and I’m smoking and I’m walking and I’m smoking and I happen to trail across that trippy friggin rock. It was sort of burried a little but not much and I looked for the rest of it but couldn’t find anything else. I may have another look tomorrow again.

I can not find any info at all about any rock even slightly resembling that thing. Maybe my google skills are slacking these days?
It’s not magnetic, does not glow under UV, and the trippy thing is as soon as I got home I noticed the green colour start to fade. It’s noticeable to the naked eye but pictures aren’t doing it justice yet so once it fades more I’ll post another pic. It’s chamging from a glassy green to a lesser glassy white/clear colour and also appears to have more cracks than earlier.

That is all the info I have about it. I definitely wanna know what this thing is! Meteorite maybe? That’s honestly my best guess but I don’t know much about rocks... It’s probably radioactive and I’m gunna turn into some hills-have-eyes type mutant any time now.

I think it's silica byproduct from forges. I think it's called slag?

Sup dog?  I can’t tell you right off hand what it is, looks dope though.  I’d hella investigate that place with you.  I hella advise weaponry and double the reasonable amount of fresh spot lights.  Try not to fall down an elevator shaft too.  Hella..

Cool find dude! I’d be all over those mines too, sounds like a blast. Maybe not by myself though. There could be murderous inbreds within.

I've gone solo into some sketchy abandoned porn territory before. It's better that way cause it's thrilling. Go in with hooligan friends and it loses its thrill. Don't waste your thrillz yo. Go alone.

That’s just not smart from a safety standpoint.  Once it’s scouted out, maybe, but not on the first run.. :nojustno:

Cool find, but it isn't a meteorite, and it likely isn't very radioactive.

Wow badass man I didn’t see an identical picture when googling slag but certainly there was really similar pics, definitely the closest guess, probably exactly what it is.

So from what I can gather about the mine which there is very scarce info about for some reason.. It was used during the 1800’s as a water discharge for the hydroelectric station that’s been in that location forever.

I dunno the specifics of hydroelectric power but could the Slag be related to the generating station? It has since been moved to a taller drop and isn’t operating exactly where I found the green rock but I guess it could be old as fuck or something?

Or maybe the slag isn’t related to the power station at all..

Good plan getting him arrested. Amanita wouldn't last a night in a Canadian jail

There was probably a forge somewhere along the water there. Could have been hundreds of years ago. I've found it in creeks that have historical iron forges along them upstream from where I was.

Why would they have slag in a mine? Did they smelt the ore right where its mined?

I wouldnt just walk into a mine either, theres risks to it such as potential wild animals, hobos, unbreathable air, getting lost, falling into shafts etc
