Hygrocybe flavescens and a few others
    #24212026 - 04/01/17 09:41 PM (6 years, 10 months ago)

Always love finding these.

Cup fungi were everywhere.

Trillium.

Another cool plant, not sure what it is.

The PNW Hygrocybe flavescens isn't really H. flavescens, I sequenced it and it didn't match much of anything in GenBank.  It's a name from Europe.

Peziza looks like http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Peziza_repanda.html

The Trillium looks like T. ovatum:  http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/species_query.cgi?where-calrecnum=8120

The final plant might be a Corallorhiza.

Interesting, I assume there isn't a name for the pnw "H. flavescens" then?

The name I use for them is "chanterelle indicator". If I find a cedar with a large patch of yellow hygrocybes, I start searching for chants around the closest Douglas Firs.  Pays off about 20% of the time.

That is a nice little tip.  I'll give it a shot this year.  I see those Hygrocybes quite often.
