Everything is alleged until it is Judged in a court of law. We didn't start this supposed "defamation", we are only trying to discuss it even if the conversation can get a little heated. I didn't jump on the band-wagon when you relentlessly defended the big-wigs in question... Heck, I like defending the under-dog myself... It wasn't enough that you swept the topic into the dusty corner of the conspiracy theory forum, but then you had to totally censor the subject by locking the thread because it wasn't going the way you'd like it to go? Fuckin' unbelievable.
Suspicious much.

Doesn't libel need to be proved in a court of law?

Sure it is.
"Most states provide for a party defamed by a periodical to demand a published retraction. If the correction is made, then there is no right to file a lawsuit. Governmental bodies are supposedly immune to actions for libel on the basis that there could be no intent by a non-personal entity, and further, public records are exempt from claims of libel. The rules covering libel against a "public figure" (particularly a political or governmental person) are special, based on U.S. Supreme Court decisions"

The plaintiff doesn't need to prove the accusations are untrue, the defendant needs to prove the accusations are true. It also requires publication of false accusations, which is why websites are removing these pizzagate threads. That's why you can't be trafficking them here.

If you're going to make this about shroomery legality, all we have to do is state that is a matter of opinion and not fact.

Because these are accusations of a serious felony against private citizens (some are public figures, but not all). Because people are specifically stating that this isn't an opinion, these are facts.
In think the editors of the Washington post understand libel laws better than just about anyone,
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/pizzagate-shows-how-fake-news-hurts-real-people/2016/11/25/d9ee0590-b0f9-11e6-840f-e3ebab6bcdd3_story.html?utm_term=.91a0d9479fb6
Quote:
SOME OF the people can be fooled all of the time, and some seem plenty pleased about it when it gives them license to exercise their most malicious impulses. How else to explain the noxious torrent of vitriol, venom and threats trained recently against a popular upper Northwest Washington pizzeria, which has been the subject of ludicrous conspiracy theories alleging that it is the center of a child - abuse racket run by Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman, John Podesta?
The allegations against Comet Ping Pong, reported by the New York Times, are absurd on their face and detached from any gossamer thread of fact. They took root in the dark crevices of the Web and took flight thanks to social media platforms, whose witless “who, us?” posture in the face of misinformation and outright lunacy is a civic embarrassment.
More than that, the use of social media as a platform for outright lies about public figures and, in this case, malevolent rumors about a pleasant neighborhood restaurant popular with families is a menace to private lives, peace and prosperity. In response to the firestorm of anonymous death threats and warnings directed at Comet’s owner, James Alefantis, and some of his employees, D.C. police have had to deploy officers to keep an eye on the restaurant.
The First Amendment is a bulwark of democracy but provides no protection for defamatory allegations published in knowing disregard for the truth. Mr. Alefantis is more than entitled to sue for defamation and libel, if he can find the purveyors of the garbage heaved his way.
A separate question is whether criminal charges may arise from some of the threats that have been leveled at the restaurant and its owner, online and by phone. Mischief may stray into the province of criminality if it incites violence.

If you guys create a user forum or discuss it in an existing user forum, those parts of the shroomery are not visible to the wider internet. I just don't think it's wise to have these serious accusations about a private citizen openly published from the shroomery.
Trump is a public figure. The rules for defamation are totally different.

Don't blow a smoke screen up ours asses to hide behind, koods. I doubt anyone said "specifically" that it wasn't a matter of opinion and was a matter of "fact". If the contents of the thread in question were in any way endangering to the Shroomery then it would've been deleted and not locked.

Fair enough, Koods. The only problem I see with that is that it would limit other people from bringing in their opinions because the subject would be "hidden", so to speak.

I didn't delete it because I wasn't sure what to do with it. I will move it to a part of the shroomery not visible to the outside world. Where would you like it to go?
