James McAvoy was great in Filth, the last movie i saw him in...he looks spectacular in this film...the shooting looks crisp and the locale is definitely spooky looking too.
it might just be awesome. getting good reviews too, so...
*damn it they removed the 10 dollars bit from Deuce Bigalo on youtube *

I'll probably stream it eventually because I like to laugh at how bad M Night movies are. He blows me away everytime with his terrible filmmaaking skills. The fact that his career is still going strong is so crazy. Failure after failure after failure. He defends himself saying he has a european sensibilty that americans just don't get lol.

Yeah his stuff is pretty gimmicky. I usually see the movies eventually. I wouldn't call his movies terrible by Hollywood standards, more just average. Of similar quality to a generic summer blockbuster. It does seem like he thinks he's making really highbrow stuff though.

Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are great.

which films are regarding here? i would admit they are kinda gimmicky, i guess. i'd say it's rather quirky. not typical.

Looking at a list of his movies, the ones I've seen are The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, The Last Airbender, and parts of After Earth and Unbreakable. The Last Airbender and After Earth I didn't know were movies of his. With most of them there was nothing too special about the dialogue or cinematography IMO, and I find his "twists" in certain stuff kind of heavy-handed. With The Village I found it pretty creepy and really liked the aesthetic. A lot of people knocked The Last Airbender, didn't know that was his but I enjoyed it. The acting was pretty wooden though.

Sixth sense is one of his most embarrassing films, which is fascinating because it's what got him famous. But the whole movie is just m night trying to trick the audience. When you watch it a 2nd time, knowing that bruce willis is dead, you see how fucking dumb the trickery is. Like seriously, how is bruce willis' character gonna go several months unable to realize that no one can see or hear him??? The scene when he's on a date with his wife and he supposedly thinks she's talking to him is the most retarded shit ever.
Unbreakable is ok. but you seriously think that the happening, lady in the water, and the last airbender are not bad, but quirky?

meh, it was clever! plus i like the look and shooting of the film.

i'd say it's underrated.

hell no, they are Godawful. i thought it was common knowledge that after Signs, Night's downturn began. Village suffered, and the rest, up 'til recently were crap. i thought it was just plain obvious, and didn't need to be stated.

Last Airbender was shafted alot, i never saw it. not my kind of movie, anyway...i like more realistic looking movies, mostly. the Village i thought was stilted, but good nevertheless...i always give more credit to the shooting and look of a movie more than anything, and the look was great. the real fire lighting gave the movie that edge, in the cinematography. plus i liked the story, it was just, like you said, heavy handed.
Signs too.
The Sixth Sense, i thought was entirely clever, even though, like Cleverest said, once you've seen it once, you can't unsee all the "twist", kinda blunting any effect the movie might have afterwards. that's why i'd say Unbreakable is his best film.
but this new one looks good, and methinks i like quirky directors. like Richard Linklater, for example (obviously an even greater producer [and director] of film).

didn't think anyone would have the balls to make a jared loughner true story he might break out of jail and kill M Night one day
i'm interested in the main actor so i stopped watching the trailer I want to see him in that role for sure, he's a really quirky dude in real life

Looks like a twist on "Sybil", I'll definitely watch it. I have no reviews or opinions on his skills, I seem to like his movies enough to enjoy them without picking them apart. I can see the entertainment value in a lot of movies good or bad though. Movies are an escape and entertainment for me.

one needs not be critical of film. i find that people are overly critical of insignificant details of most films. i focus mostly on the filmic qualities such as A: the photography/cinematography, ie, how it's shot/looks ... first and foremost...then B: everything else, music, actors, production budget, effects, story. ect.
i am of the director is auteur school of thought, though there are definitely auteur writers, but the movie needs a good director first and foremost, to make it work...thusly at that point, anything can work, from your lowliest of no-budget productions, to your highest grossing Hollywood films.
but it's not important...as long as you enjoy the concept of the film, it's fine...just some film concepts are overdone or just plain...jejune. doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, though!
