Assuming you will live to 90. Will you see a city get nuked during your lifetime?

So yeah. That gives most of us like between 40 to 70 more years. Do you think that during that time a country will have used a nuclear device on another country?
Will a nuke be used by a country to attack another during your lifetime?

I've wondered about this quite a lot. I surely hope it doesn't and I dont really think it will. I just think there is too much pressure to be the first. Whoever fires first, literally a massive portion of the world will go after them, regardless of their allegiance. Obviously the US, China, Russia, and the middle east are the first that come to mind. I truly do think that both China and Russia are too smart to do it. They may wage war, but that wont rely on nuclear weapons. If the middle east does, theyll be wiped out of existence by the rest of the world. Those are my thoughts but I'm no expert in global affairs

I don't actually believe that the upper echelons of government in Iran are as fanatical as their purported religious views are made out to be. I think these men are smart, and utilizing religion for their own purpose. They want to incite violence against the West, but I think they know better than to start World War III.

I don't see it happening, if it does it will be one of the little stupid countries in the middle East, or north Korea.

And whoever did it will be fucked hardcore by the rest of the world, and that will result in full control of nuclear weapons by large countries.

May even result in a worldwide coalition (one world government) to ensure there are no nuclear threats.
It would unite humanity.

You ask two questions:

"Will a country use a nuke on another country?"

and

"Will a city get nuked?"


No I don't think a city will get nuked, I think a tactical nuclear weapon such as a nuclear bunker buster will be used to wipe out hostile targets, like a tunnel complex or (para)military base.

America. I see the US government as the prime aggressor who would cut a corner and use a tactical nuke in one of their many wars. Elect Trump and it might happen sooner than you think. Using a nuke in combat is totally a Trump thing to do. Of course, versus mujahideen on horseback, not against another nuclear superpower like Russia or China.

A terrorist attack using a small form nuclear weapon is possible. Could take out a large building or even a good chunk of a city block. But as far as a nuclear attack on the scale of Hiroshima, I don't see it happening in my lifetime.

A total war would change that though. But I see war staying in the proxy and civil form for now at least.

I think the highest chance of nuclear detonations is probably in the Pakistan region.

Hiroshima was a tiny nuke.

Similarly sized thermonuclear devices now-a-days are generally 10-100x as powerful.

I think Pakistan has about 150 nukes already built. Pakistan probably has more people who would rejoice in the use of a nuclear weapon than any country on earth. Honestly, I can't think of a more dangerous potential nuclear power. If it were possible to disarm Pakistan by shipping the nukes to the Iranian government for safe keeping I think we would be getting off easy. It's almost impossible to imagine any scenario where an Al Qaida type of political movement doesn't gain control of those weapons at some point. Maybe India, China, and America will make some sort of alliance and just go ahead and nuke them first.

I think you underestimate how hard it is to make a nuclear weapon if you're not a government. Iran had facilities for years and couldnt get it done before they were coerced to give up. Its not something an ISIS A-Team welds together in a toolshed. North Korea got it done, but their first nuke fizzled. One kiloton of yield at most, probably less.

Either some rogue government needs to slip them a nuke, or they have to steal one and essentially reverse engineer it to rewire it to go off properly. Still, not an easy task.

China uses its people to exert its aggression, Russia relies on its vacuum bombs and great conventional capability. India and Pakistan can hurt each other very severely. Pakistan is in a situation to strike cities primarily, being faced with a billion Indians. Israel really would rather avoid nukes to prevent a massive attack of just about all states in the region. They have their nukes to prevent this war, not instigate it. France and England? No point. Most likely for a twosided nuclear war are India vs Pakistan, for an unilateral nuclear strike, America. You guys elect increasingly aggressive presidents with increasingly harsh foreign policies and you cut more and more corners which were previously considered no go areas for civilized nations, escalating into what the rest of the world considers crimes against humanity and warcrimes.

Trump is a very dangerous man.

Yeah Pakistan is fucking crazy, they act very Machiavellian - have very little stability within their country... half of the country isn't even under control of the government, how can you trust them to guard nuclear weapons..??
