I think alot of it has to do with how our minds work and our own individual experiences in our upbringings. Zappa for example was raised in a time of immense growth GDP wise, so the rhetoric of hardwork and perseverance worked for him, and because it worked for him he thinks it applies to everyone and will always hold true. Millennials on the other hand are coming of age during a contraction and will see the workforce in a totally different light than he has. Ignorance will not allow either group to reconcile their beliefs with eachother, and hence we are at our current impasse. How it plays out ultimately is up in the air, but the stakes are far greater then any other point in history so far.

EDIT: Not only that but there seems to be a fundamental blindness in our ability to empathize and understand eachothers positions.  Hatred all too often dominates our reactions to certain situations, and pride more often than not doesnt let us admit when we are wrong and willfully guides us towards idiocy. Its a complex situation by all accounts and it would benefit greatly by an increase in our collective capacity to critically question stimuli.

Yea. That all makes sense to me. It's just strange to me to see both sides saying "You're being illogical!" Its like we're playing with different decks. I guess our ability to determine the truth of the premises we base our reasoning on is greatly affected by what we're indoctrinated in.

It's just terrible to me how often the conversation devolves to essentially "No, you're an idiot." I guess it's easier to assume that your opponent is stupid than try to understand them. Unfortunately, I feel this way, I know this, yet I still catch myself doing it all the time too. I try to understand, but the only reason I can come up with is that they're just idiots

I think the problem is the "truth" The truth is rearranged and turned upside down by whichever side wants to serve it up. What exactly is the truth about what happened in Benghazi...I know Hillary ultimately took responsibility for the security lapse...but...everything is blurred beyond that so that we see it in a polarized fashion to see the truth as however our mind wants to see it....basically by which channel we watch or listen too.
The "truth" is now bought and sold and then resold and repackaged to appear as what they want us to believe.

One thing that I have noticed is that so far I have not seen one foreign country chime in and say Donald Trump is the right man for the job....they all basically say...this man is in no way...in any shape or form fit to take the helm of the most powerful country in the world. How could we even think the way we do? Maybe their news is not as slanted as ours and maybe their emotions are not in the way like ours are after having a congress that can't agree on anything for so long.
Trump is a blow hard that spews whatever lies he wants ...whenever he sees fit and then yells and belittles anyone that would cross examine him...like a shoolyard bully. I saw a fact verification group that verified that over 70% of Trumps claims are false or unable to be verified.
Yet the feeble masses seem to ignore this as just some other distraction against their next great fearless leader that will once again make America great. He is NOT a good businessman if you really look into his past...His companies have filed more bankruptcy suits than any other comparable sized ventures....by far!
His claims of putting tariffs on China to even the board a little is already being done...almost any European country selling goods to the US has to pay taxes....most of what I buy comes from Italy or Germany....we have to pay roughly 3% tax on everything we buy....this is not new.
Bhodi was right when he said that Americans are getting lazy..everyone bitches about China taking jobs but WE are the ones buying their goods because they are cheap...whether it is Wally World or commercial building products...our market is flooded with their products and NO-ONE is NOT buying them out of principle. We have to be willing to pay a little more out of pocket to buy goods made here by employees paid a fair wage.
We are too spoiled however, and will continue down this road.
The people getting rich are the same ones that support their stock holders bottom line so the dividends will be high...not the ones that take care of their employees and pay a livable wage.
All of my friends that have made enough to afford a decent retirement have done so through investments in the stock market...not by saving and banking money that they have earned...I am guilty of this myself...and when the stock market sputters...every one gets nervous...We have become a nation that wants to buy goods cheaply and not have to work hard to get ahead....lazy.
Anyone bitching about the immigration policy is blind...these immigrants do nothing but keep stocks higher by lowering costs....just ask Trump...never mind .....he will issue another sideways uneducated bullshit remark. Trickle down economics was and always will be an economic failure.

What about Trumps income taxes?? He writes it off like....I'm being unfairly audited...I'll show you them when it's over...well, Trump...what about last years or the years before income taxes?...Anytime someone tries to pin him down to hard facts...he squirms out the best way he can...by yelling at or discrediting whomever is asking the question. Fuck Trump
