Has there ever been a rise and fall like Tiger Woods?

In the entire history of any sport has anyone attained such greatness and lost it this bad? I was going to make an exception for superstars whose careers were ruined by injury, but none of them were this big. Babe Ruth, Ali and Jordan may be the only one's whose name, fame, greatness and impact on the game equaled Tiger Woods, and they had normal career declines with age. Woods is 39 but that's not old in golf.
Before he fell apart the only question was when, not if, he would break Jack Nicklaus' record for majors. Now he's gone 4 of 6 years without a minor victory. He's #1 all time in career earnings, but is around 200th in recent years. Based on his current performances he shouldn't even be allowed in majors. If he plays one decent round, they make a big deal about it. I'm sure when he was good, Tiger was making a lot of money for a lot of people besides himself, but this turning into a joke.

O.J. was a superstar, even though his career was over.
He had a little mishap where he took what you could call a fall from grace. Don't remember exactly the circumstances but he did something that brought him down a notch. Maybe not as much as Tiger though.. Idk

Lance Armstrong was world class, no doubt, and he fell as far as he could go. But other than endorsements, cycling isn't a money sport and I think people only pay attention every 4 years. The thing with Armstrong was weird. He made so much money for cancer research, and his denials probably hurt more than the drug taking, because the blood doping is so rampant in cycling that it makes other sports look clean.
OJ was a star but he was only the best in the league for a couple seasons. The weird thing about OJ was that he was accepted and well liked by so many white fans that it tuned into such a shock.

Wasn't the testicular cancer brought on by all that doping? There is some real irony in that with all the fundraising, if that's the case.

I don't think blood doping is like doing steroids. Blood doping and EPO (a naturally occurring hormone usually used for anemia) which he used are increasing the amount of oxygen by increasing red blood cells and hemoglobin. The usual risk are premature heart attacks and strokes.
I will be very surprised if Bonds and Sosa and the others whose heads enlarged don't get cancer.

Tyson? He did resort to ear biting, though now it's all used for deviant character promotion

You can make a case for Tyson. His peak was short but many fans thought he could have beat the great fighters from the past.
I lost a bundle on that ear biting. Paid for half the pay for view and gave 3-1 odds to get someone to bet. Hollyfield did punch him in the nuts twice though so it didn't completely surprise me when Tyson went cannibal.

I think Tyson recently admitted to using steroids during his career. If Jordan came out/got busted he would be in the number one spot.

Tyson lost it before he turned cannibal. How the fuck Buster Douglas beat him is a mystery that will never be solved but I think it is because of Don King.

Yes, when Cus Damato died Tyson lost the only good father figure of his life, and going with Don King was a disaster. It looked like Tyson didn't even train for the Buster Douglas fight.

Tiger is the greatest Golfer ever. Tyson is a top 5 fighter Lance is the greatest cyclist ever.
Wheres the fall? May as well throw Tom Brady on that list then if we are just naming all time greats who had major scandals that heavily influenced their careers. Lance is literally in the same predicament as Brady but he was just much more dominant at his sport. “everyone does it” is the excuse for Brady (and Lance), and then the people mad about scenario are mad about “integrity” and the dishonesty. Literally the same scandal right there, Brady just a much better outcome because he’s a pretty boy on the pretty boy team.
American dominating the frenchman sport, ya thats not gonna fly By the way the Tour De France is annual and the marquee endurance event, and one of the biggest events in the world. The Olympic Gold is nothing compared to winning on the Champs-Elysees. I really don’t get that 4 year comment. The Tour starts like next week btw, pretty good spectacle imo.
Lance is still the GOAT. Same with Tiger.
OH and for the record. Im voting OJ. That is the definition of going from first to last. Dude has the worst reputation ever, and my parents (I’m not even close to that old) told me he used to be beloved. Not too mention he is the only guy mentioned currently in prison
