My Goodbye

Dear Shroomery Members

I regret to inform you that I will be leaving the Shroomery.  There have been many things going on behind the scenes in the past month.  I've tried my hardest to work things out with Ythan, Thor, geokills and papaver.  We had a meeting on Fri Dec 05 where it was basically myself against Ythan, Thor, geokills, papaver, Anno and matts.  It was slightly productive but I really couldn't get any of my opinions out without at least a few people trampling on them telling me I just wasn't getting it.  I was sitting there trying to work it out with them and I was threatened several times, if I did not agree with every demand of their's, I would be left to pay for the rest of our current hosting contract (roughly $5000 over the next 10-12 months).  This did not encourage me to try and smooth things out with them, but I tried anyway.  I haven't spent many hours a day on the site as a user, then moderator, then administrator to have everything I've worked for taken away from me in a flash.

They are trying to help improve the future of the site, but they went about it in the totally wrong way.  In the process they have totally alienated me.

I feel I can no longer trust a few of the people at the top, and it's time for me to move on.  I put all my trust in Ythan and Thor when I gave them the username/password combos for many important accounts, incase I ever disappeared for some odd reason.  They in turn betrayed me and accessed many of my personal accounts at different sites, namely gkg.net where they took control of the domain names through unlawful means.  I really could have gotten over this fact had they been honest with me about how they did it, but none of them would be honest and forthcoming with me.  They also locked me out of the server while they downloaded all the data from it.

A few weeks ago I worked out a deal with Ythan which he agreed to.  This would have made Ythan and I equal partners in the site.  He later felt that this agreement was not satisfactory for him and gave me absolutely zero indication that he was not happy.  I had absolutely no time to prepare for any events that have happened behind the scenes.  I'm going through a few changes in my personal life and I feel that he chose to do this now so that he would catch me between a rock and a hard place, and it would be easier for him to get what he wanted.

I know I've made a few mistakes over the last 3 years in my moderator/admin days, but everyone does.  I've been through more bullshit and dealt with more drama than pretty much anyone else at the site, but this by far takes the cake.  I have a great love for the site, but this whole takeover has deminished much of the love I had for the site and a few of the people on it.  I hope you can all see where I am coming from with my decision.

I would like to start a new mushroom related website in the near future.  At this time I'm going over some of the domains that are available and have caught my eye.  I would love to see some, if not all of you, be a part of the new site.

I have come to know many of you fairly well over the past few years and I would love to hear some of your ideas/suggestions/opinions.  Again, I can't stress how much I thank all of you for your continued contributions to the site throughout the time you've been here.  Without your support the site wouldn't be nearly what it is today.  Many of you have helped enlighten people, or at least entertained them.  I wish you all the luck in the world with your future plans.  From what they tell me the DNS info was changed at 8:00 tonight and the DNS will be fully changed to point to a new server in about 24 hours.

I, for one, appreciate everything you have done for this site. I'm sorry to hear some people treated you like that.

You will be missed, but I wish you luck in whatever endeavors you pursue.

No you cant leave! The place will fall just like any great culture. The shroomery culture we speak of as we know it, is going to crumble. Every great culture must have a great leader like your self. Once the true smart leader goes, the culture goes for a great fall with some new idiot. You must stay, or atleast find a good leader for our culture!

Awe man, I wish you would reconsider, and try to work with us on this. You have every right to "feel" the way you do, but I think you are overreacting, and I don't think that this in your own best interests on several levels. :frown:

I've tried explaining my feelings, and they are promptly ignored by most, as usual.

I've tried working it out and my opinions are shot down and I'm treated as a lower form of a human being. I really don't need that in my life, not from those I once trusted.

I appreciate you trying to help though.

You've been around longer than most and it's so damn stupid for others to think they always know what they're doing.

Bringing back OTD was the right thing. It's just so ignorant for people to refuse they made a mistake or that their ideas may be flawed.

I'm just saying. In that one given situation 3D was doing something he believed in. And it was the right decision overall. No one else seemed to have the courage to do what was necessary.
