Bring cactus in checked luggage on a flight?

Hey everyone, it's been a long time. I posted this in The Pub because I wasn't sure where else to post it.

I'm planning a big hiking trip to Bryce Canyon/Zion/??? next month, and I'm wanting to bring along 4 12", viable cuttings of Bridgesii cactus. As I understand it, cuttings of this cactus are 100% legal. They would also be despined. I have 2 options to accomplish this:

1. Have it mailed to me and somehow receive it on the other end (probably Fedex and have use Hold For Pickup).

2. Bring it on the place in my checked luggage.

What do you all think?

I doubt you would want to try to put it on carry on luggage. If it's the luggage that goes stored away there isn't really a problem as long as it's not an endangered or banned species. My uncle checks his gun in all the time for the luggage that gets stored away. If you are worried about this then I would just ship it back to you.

shouldnt be an issue with checked luggage unless you're flying internatiionally
