PHY 101 Projectile motion homework

A back us thrown rock is thrown upward with 20 m/s at 50 degrees with respect to the horizontal. As it rises, neglecting air drag, what will be its horizontal and vertical component?

Ya i just don't want the answer i need to understand it. So the horizontal v= Vo COS Theta.

20 COS 50= 12.86 for my horizontal component?

You have the hypotenuse - 20 m/s. To find the horizontal component (adjacent to angle) C=A/H

Adjacent (horizontal) = HCos(theta)= 20cos(50)

#2 A projectile falls beneath the straight line path it follows if there were no gravity. How many meters does it fall below this line if it has need traveling for 1 sec and for 2 sec? Assume acceleration die to gravity is 9.8m/sec>2

Distance = (Initial Velocity * time) + 1/2 (acceleration * time^2)

Do you understand what to do? Initial velocity is equal to 0 if the projectile is simply dropped.

but I'm assuming he's asking how far a projectile drops in the y-direction from rest under the sole force of gravity after 1 second and 2 seconds.

Yeah I'm starting to get it. Thought this was a continuation of the first problem like wtf? lol

Then yeah it's this
Distance = (Initial Velocity * time) + 1/2 (acceleration * time^2)

Initial velocity = 0 m/s because it just falls of.

So for 1 sec it would be: 1/2 (9.8 x 1^2)=4.9?
2 sec= 19.6?
