My dog just attacked a possum

I let him out to pee and he took off directly to it. The thing had seven babies with it though. It dropped them then played dead. I pulled him back inside and shoveled the little ones closer to where the possum was playing dead then went back inside. I watched from the window and it eventually got up and moved around and looked like it was collecting its babies but then it just took off and left them behind. I'm hoping it comes back for them, I mean their eyes weren't even opened yet.

Op looks like you have 8 pets now. Off to the market in the AM to buy baby bottles and enfamil. You got 7 possums all up on shelves and shit and they start hissing at once I'd garauntee you ain't gettin robbed any time soon. :lol:

Shit happens. I let my dog out today and there happened to be 5 deer in the yard. One of the neighbors put up a deer fence 2 years ago and they can't figure out that they can't jump the damn thing. Anyway 2 of the deer escape just fine and the other 3 try desperately to jump over the deer fence getting themselves caught each time. One looked like it hurt it's leg and had a slight limp. I don't want my dog getting trampled either. It sucks because I can't really ask the neighbor to take down his deer fence(this happens repeatedly whenever they get spooked). My other option is to deer fence my whole yard which would cost about $5000 to do right.

on another note, when I was in high school I saved 7 baby opossums from their just hit dead mother while coming home late one night. They were the cutest and friendlies things to raise. then I gave them over to a wildlife rehab. They probably fed them to their injured hawks. Where would they release a non native species?
