I feel stronger but I would take back some of my addiction if I could and leave those lessons to be learned later in life, or never, or something.

including alcohol. I smoke cigs and drink coffee and take prescribed meds

I don't drink energy drinks, too much sugar

perscribed meds like benzos?  I consider sober being off all mind altering substances.




I dont drink caffeine or nicotine.  Im going to work on the sober thing next week when I move.  You should get off those next.

One decision at a time. I went to detox, then to a halfway house, and that helped tremendously. Now AA. When you've had enough, you've just had enough. There's nothing left for me in that lifestyle, I've proven it to myself countless times. Whenever I think about getting loaded I have to play the tape all the way through, past the part where it feels good, to the part where the shit hits the fan, which it always does.

I've been through it all as well, detox probably around 10 times, rehab 4, 2 sober houses, gone through the steps 3 times being pretty serious about it each time. Relapsed last month after 11 months clean. I was hoping you'd have something to say other than AA, because when you're in the 90+ percentage of people that don't see success from it, there's not many other viable options.

My DOC is opiates, by a very very far margin, but I've been strung out on opiates, benzos, and meth all at the same time and individually.

Last month when I slipped up, I just did a gram in a day then stopped, so while I had no w/d symptoms, it very much reset me back a very long ways in the progress I'd made.

Well, that's not the case. I don't think I ever went more than a month without opiates from the time I was 17 until 27, and stayed strung out for up to 3 years straight (even two 90 day rehab stays couldn't keep me from it). This month last year, I ODed 4 times. I'm many stages past the desperate should be dead junkie.

Well I wish you the best man. There's nothing to say I won't relapse, that's why I say I'm recovering. I don't know what separates those who make it from those who don't other than a decision not to use.

How are you going to get a job as a high school teacher if you decide that route? Do you have a criminal record? If so, are there any felonies?

I have a DUI and a couple PIs but no felonies.

I could get a job as a teacher if I wanted to, the district is in dire need.

cymbalta works.  its one of the only antidepressants I've been on that didnt totally kill my sex drive and seemed to actually work.  I dont take them anymore.  Sometimes when i want to rage out i will pop a prozac and i can feel the difference the next day.  they've never been scripted to me but they work wonders and keep me from killing people.  That only happens once every 3-6 months thank god.

PI as in possession w/ intent? If you get one or more of those expunged it will go a long way. I don't know the rules in California, but here in Ohio any sort of drug conviction is an unemployable offense and you'll more than likely not be considered. DUIs don't have to be included on the application but will show up in a background check since they can't be expunged.
