It's give and take, and people value different things.
For example, you and #2 are ok with working a minimum wage job and never amounting to anything in life so long as you can smoke pot. Others will trade drug testing for a life of luxury and respect.
I quit years ago because I got bored of it. Smoking cannabis is a pasttime, like watching telly. I derive more pleasure from my garden and self grown food than most people I know working all week at a job they hate to buy supermarket food. I don't worry about money, it's not my god, and I know I'll always have some food, even if it's mostly vegetarian. Well, that's what people say is healthy, right? Mmm, and vegetables are so much nicer with a meaty stock. And what respect? I don't have respect for someone because they have a fancy suit, big house or flashy car. All that shows is you're a good consumer.
I have respect for people who are happy. I want to be like those people, and I found that they aren't caught up in the game.
We all have different wants and needs in our lives, and you know what? Some people like to live in a flat in the city where they earn more (but the cost of living is higher and you're more divorced from nature) and others have just figured it out.
But, you've got a choice. Give up your vice for a life. And you know what? I say go for it. Do it for a few years, save up, then buy a yacht and sail from country to county, fish and trade drugs for food and parts. Or live on the interest. If the money pays well, think of it as a prison sentence, but with slightly nicer furniture.
