Im definitely all for the permanent removal/banning of the hello.jpg pic unless of course there is warning before you even open the thread. Man I almost puked when I saw that picture for the first time as well as the numerous other times I was tricked into opening a thread. However it was a good source of fun for many...

I don't see a compelling argument for removing it.

I think you're probably the first person I've ever seen actively complaining about it. It's just a picture.

not too many people actually enjoy looking at it, but no one ever really complains about it either...we all know that it's just one of them right-of-passage things for n00bs (which is why most people use it in the first place - to fuck with newcommers who might not have seen it before)





allthough...I do see what you're saying about how it sets a certain 'tone'

Muppet, I appreciate all of your comments concerning OTD, I often disagree with you but, I have no doubt you are using your brain.

That said, I'm gonna' comment on your statement.

Your comments brought to surface some of the things I've been mulling over since OTD went away.

This has less to to with hello.jpg (I'm a fan) than it should but, it still pertains to the topic and I haven't seen it discussed much in this big OTD discussion.

You mention n00bs and right of passage and stuff. Now, I wasn't an OTD whore but I read it and lurked I saw several n00bs in OTD and I saw how people treated many OTD n00bs... and I'm not just talking about n00b morons.

I don't know what OTD was like when you joined but, in the last month, it has been a very harsh place for noobies. I mean there are hazings and there are HAZINGS. In the last month, newbies in OTD often got the proverbial broomstick up the ass (insert hello.jpg here).

I never had a problem with the tough love nature of OTD. I did have a problem when people razzed n00bs.

There is something wrong when it is easier to make friends in the Cultivation Forum (where most pople are ananomously breaking the law and have a good reason to be paranoid) than in OTD.

It is almost like n00bs didn't count 'cause they weren't there for the suicides.

It is almost like some people in OTD wanted to prepare n00bs for the next suicide by thickening their skin.

Sure I understand why there was tough love in OTD but, I don't think it was having a positive effect. Because of its often harsh initiation process, I don't think OTD was getting as many new, lasting members as the other forums.
