I'd like an option to be able to link to a specific, previous message in a MsgBox conversation.

Having used MsgBox for like 2 weeks now, it's apparent to me that some people simply don't have it enabled. One person told me he simply didn't receive my message, but I didn't go into detail about the whole MsgBox thing in my response but it's obvious that if there was a flashing envelope up there he would ahve seen it as he was answering regular PMs, so it's obvious that he simply doesn't have MsgBox enabled. As I see it, this is totally unacceptable, not knowing if someone actually receives your message or not. So can those who have it disabled receive an alert via regular PM that 'datura would like to talk to you using the new flavor of private messages known as MsgBox'? Furthermore, the feature of read receipts for both PMs and MsgBox would be cool.

So people that have it disabled should have their choice ignored because what you have to say is more important than the wishes of others?

Well the fact of them receiving a regular PM is not ignoring their choice. They have MsgBox disabled, not regular PMs. The PM would invite them to use the MsgBox, but they can obviously just respond to the sender via the regular PM system. So their choice is not being ignored. And I don't think you're taking into account that they may have disabled MsgBox on a whim 1 ½ years ago when no one was using it. If they were to see that certain members desired it they might change there mind. To emphasize that point, certain types of messages may be universally agreed to be better suited for MsgBox, e.g. those of an academic nature where the participants in the discussion would frequently refer to previous material in the exchange. Another thing is that one can include multiple people in a MsgBox exchange, which is basically a private thread. That too is a valid reason for inviting someone to use the feature; there might actually be a situation where it was much more convenient to use than regular PMs. I also don't think you're taking into account that some members may have had it disabled by the system.
So, an automated invitation sent via regular PM. Not exactly disrespecting their supposed choice is it? You quickly jump to such an intensely negative viewpoint of my post. Nice going.

Well I just verified that someone to whom I sent a MsgBox msg did not have MsgBox enabled and had never even heard of it, so it was simply disabled on his account automatically. Obviously private messages sent out that never reach the person where there is no indication even to the sender that such is the case is a poor situation and something should be done about it.

The individual that I told to enable MsgBox told me that there were other messages waiting for him in addition to mine when he did so! It sounds odd, but so far two people who registered on this site solely to ask me for an invite to a private site used MsgBox, so I would imagine that it was newer members who wanted to engage him in private conversation because for whatever reason new members are more likely to gravitate to MsgBox. He makes a lot of detailed posts in the Spirituality section so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets all sort of PMs as topics that are better suited for private arise in that section. And the point is that he missed the messages because of the broken system. He never even disabled MsgBox!

Why yes, yes it is. It doesn't matter if it was a whim or not.

It's not regarding that their decision was whimsical; it's that they're receiving a standard PM. A MsgBox user is going to send them a PM anyway if the person doesn't use MsgBox. I was merely suggesting an automated invite-style PM.
Same outcome: the person gets a PM.

Why should those that have MB disabled ever see a PM about it?

You'd do well at a telemarketing firm that calls people despite their being on a "do not call" list.

Wouldn't the smarter thing be just to notify the msgbox sender that the recipient doesn't use msgbox so that the sender can initiate a conversation via regular PM.
A lot of us hate msgbox and have since it was created. I'd have it disabled, too, if I didn't need it for banned users to get in touch with me.

Why do you hate it? What's to hate about a system that make it easier to see previous messages?

It doesn't matter why he hates it. You're advocating a big 'fuck you' to those that have it disabled.

But I'm not on the point anymore. I'm not intent on it; it's just one of many bug reports/suggestions in this thread. I'm just curious as to why he hates it.

They are free to use it for those purposes. If someone wants to privately communicate with me, I'd prefer it not to be threaded...at least on my end.

You know what, why shouldn't MsgBox have an option to display only one message per page? To get rid of the the thread that arises that people like Enlil don't like?

That wouldn't solve the problem, though. If there was an option to show one message per page AND list the messages sequentially instead of grouped by thread, that'd be fine...but then it'd basically be the PM system all over again.
