I found out about him around the same time I found out about Amon Tobin

Both are on Ninja Tune (the record label)

I had a friend recently come over and add a lot of Bonobo to one of my Spotify playlists.

I've been jamming to some of the songs, but electronic music is still all new to me. I just started giving it a chance about a year ago.

I'm sure Bonobo live would be great though. Any of these good EDM (hope I'm using the term EDM correctly) artists probably put on a hell of a live show.

I don't know all the different sub genres of electronic music, but these tunes are all really chill.

Black Sands is so fucking good.

Saw him this summer at a fest. It was a real good show. Would like to see him again on his next tour, but at a show that is his instead of a fest.

What does IDM stand for?

I'd love to attend Ultra down here to really give electronic music a fair shot. The tickets are just so ridiculously expensive. I remember the first few years hey held the festival it was only around $100 for the weekend.

I believe it's close to a grand nowadays. Maybe going to some small shows from lesser know local DJ's will get me into the spirit of this genre.

Bonobo would be classed as downtempo, like nightmares on wax. I'm sure hes been called new jazz and trip hop. Genres are stupid when you think about it

Agreed. Especially nowadays with the endless multitude of genres and sub-genres.

Just 10 years ago it seemed like there were only 5 or so well known genres. Now everyone classifies bands, dj's, and artists as something different.

That might be true. My musical preferences in my late teens/early 20's were very limited.

I try to give everything a shot nowadays. There's just too much good music out there to be focused on one or two types of music.

I find genres to be really helpful in terms of electronic music. Like I know if somethings classed as ambient techno chances are im going to like it. Music made by bands though is another kettle of fish, you could take two bands that are called 'indie' but they could be completely different in terms of lyrics, style and appeal.
