What part of Northern California San Francisco should I move to?
    #20714144 -

As the title says im looking to move somewhere around San Fran/Northern california, as my new job will be in san fran proper.

Anyone have any tips/suggestions as to what part of the area theyd recommend? I've been looking into Oakland, and from my search on mushroom observer there were some photos of actives being found there.

i've been using padmapper to find apartments, is there something like west side rentals but for northern california?

i have a car so it would be nice to make use of it, but ill be working in the soma/mission/potrero area

Driving in and parking in SF sucks. If I were moving there I would get a Bart map and look for an apt close to the line, as close to SF as you can afford.  Narrow it down to a few candidates and then drive the area to see if it meets your class expectations. If you are coming from someplace cheaper you may be shocked. Or you can buy a palace in the exurbs and spend 3 or more hours a day in your car.

Oakland is close but varies widely by neighborhood. Some parts are really nice. Some are not. Some parts are prone to burn...A friend moved there and a cop stopped him and asked him why he was driving in that part, it wasn't safe.

I've been to Berkeley, Albany, San Ramon, peninsula, all nice if you can afford it. Hayward, union city, Fremont are livable and a little cheaper.

This person knows what's up. I wouldn't recommend anybody who wasn't rich move into SF, but Oakland is fantastic. I live in Albany. It's boring as fuck here, loaded with cops, and full of gentry. But thankfully, Albany is a 15-minute drive from much cooler places, namely SF (which is great to visit but AFAIK horrible to live in, especially with the gentrification going on), Oakland (whose reputation for dangerous criminality is WAY WAY WAY overstated and has replaced SF as the countercultural jewel of the bay area), and Berkeley (which is fucking full of cryptofascist hipsters, but overall quite pleasant with nice parks and a rich intellectual legacy).

Verdict: somewhere in the greater bay area is probably the coolest area in California. Of course, I'm biased, since I've lived there my whole life. The next-coolest areas are in the LA area, and up north in the Humboldt area. There's also a lot of cool places to road trip to but not necessarily cool to live at, but you should visit and check the places out for yourself. It's a lot of diversity in terms of geology, climate, and culture in this state.

I'm looking to move out there in a few years. I would like to live on the west side of the bay somewhere, but I doubt I'll be able to afford it. I've only visited the area for a week before and I really liked Marin and San Rapheal. Haight Ashbury area seemed cool and sketchy at the same time. I'm not really picky on where I live as long as its safe and has a yard that I can grow cacti in. I wish I had a list of the areas that were the most dangerous since I'll have to pick an area without really knowing anything about it.

Im actually house hunting in the peninsula san mateo county area. Its very diverse and the demographics are quite intermixed. One block from a 12mil town home and you could get a 400k manufactured. Crime is variable as well check with your precinct they track everything from sex offenders to pedestrian vs. Vehical stats, (which was actually enlightening) Im hoping you find a nice place, I absolutely love it out here. And am also looking to meet some like minded shroomerites. I hear the hunting can be rewarding out here but Im anxious to see if the drought will effect the turn out. Let us know how things turn out. It looks like I might end up in the mission district or nearby. You should drop a line I know a great dispensary there.

Why is there ebola up here or is it just the hygiene. I mean showering once every month saves water... and our planet is only covered in 75% water... so we gotta you know.. save it..:bubbles:

I lived in a West Oakland warehouse for 5 years, I loved it, but friends were getting mugged so I moved to the Hayward hills. I was 10 min from the Bart station and I had deer and wild turkeys walk through my yard, it was awesome. It was like Berkeley only without the cool people and the rent was way cheaper. If I move back I'll probably live by Lake Merritt.

If you go to Oakland, my friend told me go to West Oakland. Apparently East Oakland is the dangerous area.

That's true but W. Oakland isn't exactly safe either. A friend got pistol whipped, another had his car stolen. Someone was shot with an Uzi right behind my place on Market and 19th. We paid $1500 for a 1500 sq ft loft. Merritt / Piedmont is the safe/expensive area. Still way cheaper than SF / N Bay though.

I was just in SF not to long ago and the hills are insane. I would hate to be a car driver there. When I was traveling I traveled through there as well and hit up the height, it was pretty chill. I passed briefly through oaktown and it was downright dreary as fuck. Lived homeless in Berkeley on the campus for about 3 months and its chill as fuck there, my recommendation personally. Some weird ass vibes there but also some chill as vibes as well. So weird. I lived in a protest camp there in a tree for about a month.
