No bug here.  It is funny when people who have no good argument throw stuff about projecting out there.

Logically sound, but his emotions are clearly affecting his ability to be mindful in his words.

It's not about claiming to be "colorless", it's about looking past the things that divide us; so we can be more proactive as one human race.

God that sounded so fucking corny. :hehehe:

It was corny because calling someone what they are isn't necessarily dividing us, and not calling Raven a lesbian African American(what she is) certainly is not going to hinder us as one race.

Her being a lesbian, black, or African American is not dividing me from anyone.  Apparently the problem is with you and her.

Yes I agree that fixating on these differences can lead to our downfall. But only when someone deliberately treats someone worse or differently for these differences. Simply using a common word of the English language to describe a human more specifically isn't impeding being proactive.

What impedes being proactive is someone complaining about these commonly used English words when they were used without any malicious intent and people actually agreeing with said person because they are a famous minority.

Okay, now with better clarifitication, I can agree with y'alls stance.

You can't deny the reality we are presented with.
Raven has darker skin, there is no denying it.

It's when we perceive reality as we want it to be, and not how it really is; that's when the problems arise.

Unfortunately this is the case for most people, so that's why I just typically tell others to try not bothering with labels.

Agreed.

And even bigger problems arise when you perceive reality as you want it to be to the point of disregarding the basic meaning of words and try to project it onto people via the media.

Her attempting something like this makes me a little sick.

Don't let your emotions run wild over the blunders of some public icon.

She has good intentions in her reasoning.

Try to keep sight of her compassion

But yeah, y'all are right.

She's black.
And she prefers woman over men.

But that doesn't change anything but herself and those close to her.

It's the negative connotations that are inherently tied to some labels in this society that she is actually addressing.
Not the labels themselves.

It's all just misunderstanding by a poor expression of her frustrations.

Sorry acaterpillar but :whathesaid: is much more what I feel like her reasoning is for pulling something like this. I don't think she was trying to peacefully address the negative connotations tied with black or lesbian. I think she is trying to exploit an overly PC nation to gain publicity. And what's sick about it is that she realizes she can do things like this because she is a minority.

It is funny how she didn't contact GLAAD with her bullshit, because GLAAD itself uses the terms "gay & lesbian" and they are obviously proponents.  I am sure she didn't contact the NAACP either.  She went on Oprah and did it.
So anyone who thinks that it is us(you, me, or anyone else) that is the problem here with "labeling" people is an idiot, including Raven.

 @ that last sentence but I get the jist of what you're saying. If she really wanted to do something about the problem and be an activist, she would've done what you described.

But she went on Oprah, declared herself colorless and said she didn't like being labeled. It's just so  from any perspective I look at it from other than publicity.

Some humans are white and heterosexual.  You don't see them going on Oprah and blabbing stupidly about those labels.

That's because you're talking about Oprah.

Those people are on other channels.

I don't follow.  Are you implying that Oprah is racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminates?

I wish Oprah and Raven would register here and chime in already.  Maybe I will try to reach out to Oprah myself.

Yes we are all human. She is also black and a lesbian though.

She and you have a problem with labels. What is so different about using "black" as a label rather than human? Saying black is more specific. That is what language is used for, to describe things specifically and accurately. So resorting to the most fundamental similarity between us all as the only appropriate label is counterproductive to the development of the English language IMO.

But really if you have a problem with the LABEL, "Black" what is so different about the LABEL, "human?"

It seems you are suggesting the problem as a solution to the problem.

Lol please link me to an interview where a white heterosexual male complains about being labeled as a white heterosexual male.

It sounds silly to even think that it's offensive or "close minded" to use these labels. But that's how it is in this country nowadays, gotta be PC rather than have common sense.
