birds are somehow smarter then suspected. my dad's African Grey was like nodding at me and shit when i was like "oh shit, can't treat this bird like a bird, gotta treat him like a human. what?!"

creepy. a bit. but awesome.

sorry about your loss OP, these little guys...

This is just a quick link I pulled up on it, but there are tons of similar studies on bird brains and primate brains, and it's pretty interesting.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/07/130717095336.htm

I guess a lot of birds also share certain genes that are in a lot of primates, but not in other mammals, that supposedly trigger some kind of neuronal growth that allows for complex communication. I'm paraphrasing here, but read into it, it makes a lot of sense as to why a parrot can learn more complex English than a dog for example despite smaller brain size. Or why birds have a greater sense for music than other animals.

That's kind of why I don't want one. They might shit talk me with another bird friend while I'm asleep.

oh my dad's bird. communicates like crazy. African Grey is one of like the smartest birds. it's like talking to a person, though, with a limited vocabulary. but you get past the fact it is mimicing shit all the time, you begin to get the sense that those restrictions are merely that... not a "limit" but a restriction.

the rest of communication is done in nods, timing of mimicry, and like the rest of the animal world, pain. :yesnod: but still, smarter then most animals. and there goes the whole "animals are different then humans thing" for me. it's simply asinine to think that they don't share the same perception of consciousness.

PS: the bird loves music too.

Play them something classy like Mozart or Chopin and listen to your own music in your room with headphones on.
