Quote:
So where did that famous “consensus” claim that “98% of all scientists believe in global warming” come from? It originated from an endlessly reported 2009 American Geophysical Union (AGU) survey consisting of an intentionally brief two-minute, two question online survey sent to 10,257 earth scientists by two researchers at the University of Illinois. Of the about 3.000 who responded, 82% answered “yes” to the second question, which like the first, most people I know would also have agreed with.

Then of those, only a small subset, just 77 who had been successful in getting more than half of their papers recently accepted by peer-reviewed climate science journals, were considered in their survey statistic. That “98% all scientists” referred to a laughably puny number of 75 of those 77 who answered “yes”.

That anything-but-scientific survey asked two questions. The first: “When compared with pre-1800s levels, do you think that mean global temperatures have generally risen, fallen, or remained relatively constant?”  Few would be expected to dispute this…the planet began thawing out of the “Little Ice Age” in the middle 19th century, predating the Industrial Revolution. (That was the coldest period since the last real Ice Age ended roughly 10,000 years ago.)

The second question asked: “Do you think human activity is a significant contributing factor in changing mean global temperatures?” So what constitutes “significant”? Does “changing” include both cooling and warming… and for both “better” and “worse”? And which contributions…does this include land use changes, such as agriculture and deforestation?

:lmafo:

Consensus ≠ 75

Dude, Forbes is the heart of wall street... That's the last source I would believe when it comes to a scientific concept that would take profit out of corporation's pocket

Science is not truth.  It is a system of inquiry that is designed to make the most accurate predictions as possible.  The Global warming alarmists' prediucitons have been utterly false.  They are not practicing science

OH NO!!! THE POLAR BEARS ARE DYING!!!

Oh, wait. They're not.

Quote:
Despite all this hedging, the numbers still tell a powerful story. It’s just not always clear what that story is. In Davis Strait, between Greenland and Baffin Island, the polar bear population has grown from 900 animals in the late 1970s to around 2,100 today. In Foxe Basin — a portion of northern Hudson Bay — a population that was estimated to be 2,300 in the early 2000s now stands at 2,570. And in specific areas of western Hudson Bay, the most-studied, most-photographed group of bears on Earth seems to have been on a slow but steady increase since in the 1970s.

forbes publishes for the most part, financial news, know the thing about
global warming that should be alarming, it's a huge financial industry,
hundreds of billions per year, so if I can convince you that wind energy
will help to end global warming my wind energy production will increase
because more people will invest, government will issue more subsidies and
grants. we see it with 'green energy' all the time

So calling people stupid and referring to your elders as "fossils" is the best that you've got to contribute to this thread? Petty flaming? And of all things, ageism? Typical PatLOL response.

If your jimmies are rustled over a discussion that's not going your way, maybe you should just make a cookie-cutter PatLOL thread about how awesome you are and agree with everyone how awesome they are while contributing nothing to the boards.

Or you can, you know, post in this thread like an adult.

Listen guys. I used to be just like you guys 2 years ago. I didn't believe shit about global warming. But after reading a shit ton of studies on it, a bunch of videos and reliable source, I have come to the conclusion that's its undeniable at this point. THere are too many points of data that have been analyzed, too many models created. To many observable situations.

Plus its too fucking easy to just say, its not true!!

Let's be clear. I don't doubt the climates is changing. I wouldn't be surprised if man is actually partly to blame.

I do however, laugh at the debunked claim of 97%.

I do however laugh when it's touted as gospel.

I do however laugh when people claim a consensus.

I do however, laugh even harder when told the science is settled.

The climate has changed many times. It's  the way of the world. It changed before we were here, it'll change after we're gone. It's the Chicken Little's that attract my scorn and my laughter. We have no idea what temperatures are "normal". We can only paper things with our bias. Perhaps the "new" climate will be better than the current one.

We don't really know. We hypothesize. Seeing as the world seems disinclined to change, we'll know... someday.
