The creepy thing is the # of people that go  missing every year and don't return.

Something like 50,000 people every year in Brasil.

No doubt, no one ever finds them and there is no telling how many people kill someone by mistake or on purpose and either do it again, or just occasionally.

ugh, my stupid Investigation Discovery channel binge made me start carrying my mace again. I got it a couple years ago after I got robbed, but was afraid that I'd accidentally throw the "Safety" off or end up pulling it out at the wrong time and aggravating the situation.

The only girl I know that has actually had to use her mace ended up getting shot in the stomach because she pulled it out during an armed robbbery, so I'm pretty apprehensive.

She survived. And she kept her purse.

Armed robbery is just a city-wide problem here, it happened to me, it happened to several people I know, and 9/10 times they just want your stuff and you're best off giving it up. I've seen several violent crimes take place and have sat and waited for paramedics with a stab victim outside my house(also survived).

Aside from car break ins and maybe pick pocketing or whatever, you're not likely to encounter any further trouble as long as you mind your own business and stay out of the really bad areas in the city - as a whole it's on a remarkable upswing and there's a ton of wonderful things going on, but that doesn't mean it's not a complete shitshow at times.

And yeah...it definitely has made me a lot more paranoid or wary. I'm shocked I didn't get robbed sooner considering how naive and unaware I was.

No but honestly, I am a very clumsy person and the mace cannister is small and all black and I honestly feel like if I pulled it out in any situation where I was scared and wasn't thinking clearly it would be entirely plausible that I would just accidentally mace myself because it's so hard to see which direction it's pointing.

I honestly feel like I would be dead by now if I ever tried to take advantage of my 2nd amendment rights.
I do carry a multi tool with me for work that could easily be used to shank someone, though.

This is true, but at least I won't(hopefully?) kill myself if I accidentally end up pointing it the wrong way.

And if I do end up pointing it the right way then it'll totally incapacitate the hypothetical attacker.
