There are a ton of books that didn't become part of the 27-book canon. It wasn't until the 4th century until early Xtians agreed on the 27 books in NT. About half of them are actually forgeries.

There is the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, Apocalypse of Peter, 3 Corinthians, Gospel of Judas/Mary/Peter, Epistle of Barnabas, 1 Clement, etc.

How anyone takes any of the retarded crap written in the bible seriously/"inerrant"/historical is beyond me.

The book mentioned in the OP probably was not even around at that time to be rejected though (at least in the form it exists now). Supposedly it was written by someone who lived at the same time as Jesus, but it refers to Muhammad by name and he was born hundreds of years later.

Personally I think the most plausible explanation is that it was concocted after the creation of Islam to try to lend it historical support.
