Amalgam filling and part of tooth came out
    #20373100 -

2-3 years ago I had a partial root canal done on one of the teeth in the back of my mouth (upper). I've always had issues with food getting stuck between the filled tooth and the one next to it, and about 2 months ago I noticed I couldn't stick a toothpick between them anymore, so something shifted.

About a month ago when trying to use a toothpick, the filling actually shifted out and I had to press it back into the tooth. Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed the tooth around the filling started to break, eventually the entire back of the tooth broke off.

Now today I went to take a bite of cereal, and it pushed between the side of the tooth and the filling. The filling came completely out when I scraped around it with a toothpick, and I yanked half of my tooth out.

No pain or anything (like I said, partial root canal), but should I be worried? I know some people are against mercury fillings, saying they are bad for your health. At first I thought it was a good thing that it was out of my mouth completely, but after a tiny bit of reading I'm worried I'm at a greater health risk now that the filling is out.. that there was more mercury released than if it stayed in and never decayed in my mouth.

Not too concerned with what's left of the tooth, more concerned about the amalgam filling.

Just lost my health insurance a month ago, too.

Honestly I can't remember the toxicity of mercury amalgam right now but if your not going to see any doctors the best thing you could probably do is spit frequently and also try and get all the amalgam that is still in your mouth out. I would try to go to a doctor though very soon
