i get that. i watch television on a old small tv, but it looks pretty awesome, i love the way some of the old televisions look, kinda like the books of tv n shit.

im by far no tv junkie tho..

anyway i was watching a movie on my sisters television a few weeks ago and she has a really nice quality tv apparently, the effects were way too real, the movie looked homemade. i doubt it was the shrooms.

that's because it was probably a film with no real framing whatsoever. new movies love to have cameras flinging around into empty space to close ups of the action (CGI sometimes) it's not possible to see any details.

Does anyone else get the feeling that when you watch older movies in high definition that something feels off?

The lips don't synch perfectly. You can see the pores in people's skin. The light doesn't come from any plausible source. Everyone looks sweaty...

Maybe im just not used to it.

also frameloss in gaming and delayed onset of video; Retarded shit

How come the audio of movies before the late eighties is noticeably muffled-sounding?

Probably due to noise suppression. In audio recording, hiss (i.e. high-frequency noise) tends to be a problem (both in digital and analog btw) and the easiest way to get rid of it is to filter out some of the high frequencies. That also cuts out any useful signal in that range, resulting in muffled sound. Today, recording and editing technology are better, with less noise induced by each step in the process and noise reduction techniques being smarter and not simply cutting off all signal above some frequency.

Interesting. Thanks. Why is hiss a problem even with digital?

Because its still the same FM signal quality as analog.

I've found that most people complaining of HD looking weird are actually experiencing a problem with higher refresh rates.

If your TV has 120 mhz refresh enabled things look very strange. It makes movies and TV look like everything is a reality TV show and it drives me nuts. First thing I did with my TV was disable the 120 mhz refresh and I bet if you can find this feature and disable it you will find it much better when watching movies. I only enable this feature when I'm playing games because it actually does do some good there.

Read this article if you want to know why it is this way.

I downloaded the first Hobbit movie in 48 fps and it did indeed look weird, like old BBC shows or something. "The Wizard of Oz" and the original Star Trek also look weird in HD and in that case it's definitely not a framerate issue with them. I think it's more just that I'm used to seeing all their quirks through a fuzzier "filter".

Tvs are meant to be showroom out of the box whether you pick display or home use. I highly suggest anyone with a nice television to get a color tuner DVD. they're like 20 bucks max online.

A lot of people also forget to stay the proper distance from their TVs. The bitmap projection is meant to jive with the curvature of the lense in your eye. An improper viewing angle will not only make it look shitty (even games) but give you a terrible headache.

Source I guess is installing hundreds if not thousands of multiroom cable/box hookups in casinos, bars and 8+ bedroom homes. Samsung seems to be the best next to Vizio. Samsungs sometimes require a greater viewing distance then recommended, especially online streaming and gaming.

Some TVs now come equipped with their own HD converters but it's not going to make analog THAT much better. Sometimes it also conflicts if a signal is passing through an hdmi convertor in a box and then also the TV.

Most common issues too are people fitting images to screen or viewing them in zoom mode. Some also automatically do it unless you disable the feature.

Also too few people read the instructions. Even if a TV is the same make/model it may have upgraded 2nd 3rd 4th gen equipment in it that your original TV doesn't have.

The color contrast DVD could be 100 bucks and I'd still recommend it to people; particularly gamers, streamers or any type of dish tv.

Hope this helps.

A sound bar with optical audio input should solve noise issues as mentioned above, they offer the higher frequencies and sometimes even autocorrect common issues. Some devices even learn this over time.
