Hd is weird

Does anyone else get the feeling that when you watch older movies in high definition that something feels off?

The lips don't synch perfectly. You can see the pores in people's skin. The light doesn't come from any plausible source. Everyone looks sweaty...

Maybe im just not used to it.

I saw a 3d 4K TV at some store and it was uncomfortably real looking.

because you see more now obviously. cramped sets, hot lights, less preferential makeup, plus of course the dubbing of the films are less then ideal given the old editing standards of the audio, and the ideal performance from the actor. it's hard to synch that shit ya know.

seeing more? because, historical reference and mayhaps, the delight to see the actual full detail of the picture? i have been watching HD B&W films, the Seven Samurai (first time) and The Island of Lost Souls (again, first).

and Rashomon, and Ikuru, and Woman in the Dunes.

Double Indemnity was real good. never really paid mind to a film noir and boy they must be excellent.

HD is awesome for old movies. Taxi Driver in HD :homerdrool: (some of the best photography, and camera work in that movie, almost ever)

i have Intolerance in HD. that'll be fun... oh and Metropolis. the cinematography, brilliant. (the over lapping shots of machines and pillars of industry, and the workers down in the hellish domain of gears and drums and levers)

35mm film is higher quality than HD video. Blu-ray is just getting closer to the original quality.

How come the audio of movies before the late eighties is noticeably muffled-sounding?

the tools of the trade were different. always have been and been evolving since they inserted into film around the 30's. before, they could record a musical ensemble and then insert the music... but they didn't have the sound equipment to record the players (actors) in the scenes. so they had to be silent, word wise. it's all a development. the eighties saw a major swing in technology.

Everything is perfect on HD. I haven't seen one bug in all my time. The graphics are just so crisp though. Its like the images come in so vividly that you can envision yourself there. I feel like it takes me into the TV almost, as if I have become an instrument of it. I doubt I'd be of any use though. They'd probably pass for something else after long. I would feel heartbroken if they just picked up and went.

watch some 1990's action films.

When computer generated images were just becoming mainstream.

Some look like shit.


Air Force One with harrison ford for example.

Plane looks like crap when it hits the water at the end.


There are some 70's/80's movies where I swear you can see the string hanging up the spacecraft or airplanes.  It'll take me a while to think  of something specific.
