are any of you from detroit?
    #20253920 -

When i read anything on the news about detroit it seems fucking crazy.  I wonder what detroit it really like.

It it true there are just abandoned buildings everywhere and like the streetlights dont work and your car is going to get stolen every month?

I don't live nor have I ever been there.

I know people who have though, and it is supposedly as bad as it sounds. I heard the stores pretty much all close and the city shuts down at night, in other words, there's no need to walk around at night and if you do, it's at your own risk.

It's a VERY bad city to be in.

I live about 3.5 hours away and the place looks like a warzone. Time for OCP to step in. :gameover:

If you are from there, you are used to it. Go on vacation for two weeks then drive back through it and be like "what the fuck happened to this place" then it all is normal after a few days again.

Don't forget Flint and Saginaw.

Thing about Flint is, once you think you are in the hood, keep going, then you get to the hood.

Nice thing is, downtown not crowded. Most people are friendly because everyone has been broke for 30 years and get along with it. No real traffic. And the nice parts are really nice, the suburbs and ect.

Detroit is crowded, tons of traffic, people can be dicks. Everything is more expensive that way.

What is it in detroit you "get used to"?

is there like nice parts and then the bad parts are easily avoided?

I mean it is blown out of proportion a bit. St Louis is a shit hole and I rather live in MI. MI vs hawaii, my god most of that state is ghetto and has lots of violence.

I don't know. I guess it's better from an outside view. People who have lived and been around Detroit and Flint, really see the shit as normal. Daily shootings and fucked up gang wars, dont forget the crooked cops. Another day in the life... The average person doesnt experience the violence so much, unless you count theft. It's a hard life if you dont have a good job and live in the hood. Not many good jobs, and you have to know people to get them. Lots of young adults have BA and Master degree's still working at starbucks.

Downtown detroit is fun, and it's just like being in an old city. Not as kept as it should be. But detroit as a city is very small. People refer to "Detroit" as the Detroit area. With I would say around 15 suburbs surrounding. Drive 5 miles either way and you can buy a house for 500 bucks, or 1 million. Yea it's a bit of an experience.

MI cities are very spread out, with horrible public transport, and it's not easy to get one place to another. Go to the west side of the state such as Grand Rapids. You wouldn't think you were in the same state.

As a Michigander here, ill give you the real lowdown on Detroit....

Its not as bad as people make it seem. Sure, just like any city, there are sketchy parts you shouldn't enter if you are a certain ethnicity at a certain time of night.
In all reality, i feel safe as shit in Detroit. Just don't be strolling through the ghetto at 1AM just like any other city.

Flint, is really the bad city in MI.

if someone from this site is from detroit we should crowdfund a REIC just incase somehow the US doesn't let the city fall into a black hoel.

Dude, I was chilling in Grand Rapids for a week while visiting friends. Friendliest city I've ever been to in my life. People were so chill, even just walking down the street.

Rather live in Flint though (lived around both cities). Maybe i'm weird. But I like the people better, cheaper EVERYTHING, and you can drive 20 minutes any way and be in the country to do some fishing, hunting, biking, ect....

One of my good friends lives there. I visit often. Great city to hang out in. I wouldnt live there though. Too much of a college town, expensive, and traffic blows if you work there. But great food scene, breweries, and easy access to whatever type of shopping you want.

Kalamazoo was one of the best places in Michigan I've ever been. Did a bit of LARPing there back in 2002 when that shit was still cool.
