Suggestion on EXIF (geocoding) warning when uploading images.
    #20208693 -

I think that we should have a warning on the photo upload page that explains that many mobile phones will embed geocoded data within the picture (EXIF data) and details on how to turn it off.

Or even better, a script that will scrape all EXIF data from uploaded images.

It didn't take me long to find a few images that I had uploaded with geocoded data.  In my case, my images were of random edible and poisonous mushrooms from forays.  But, I could see this being a big issue for other types of pictures.

I assume it would be easy enough to do since there is already a script that looks at orientation EXIF data.

Good suggestion, but EXIF data is already stripped from all images uploaded to our server.

Great minds think alike.

I guess I forgot that I used imgur to upload the images in question.  We might still want to put it in the forum guidelines on particularly sensitive forums, just as a reminder to people who are posting pictures to make sure they aren't accidentally giving away their exact location.
