Anyone try the imported Mexican coke? It's a lot better tasting to me. I don't know why but I feel it rots my teeth a little less, and just has a more smooth flavor.  :awehigh:

tastes the same to me, that's probably because the mexican government doesnt
differentiate between high fructose corn syrup and sugar, both are sugar to
them and some underhanded executive types decided it's a great way to market
it in the US

back in the day, it hurt to drink a coke fast, felt like you were drinking acid

I remember the first sip making your eyes water.

The regular stuff doesn't do that anymore.

I remember when it changed, it tasted like flat pepsi but they still
marketed it as simply coke, after a year or so they slapped the new coke
label on it and people balked even though they had already been drinking it
for a year so they put the same shit in a different bottle and called it
coke classic and people were happy again thinking that the previous
formulation was back but paid no attention to the lower carbonation and
extra sweetness

they dont use sugar in mexican cokes, there hasnt been for 20 years, last year coca cola came out and claimed they may change over because of a tax on coke in mexico, in reality, they made that switch years ago and people pay a premium for a lie.

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1038/oby.2010.255/full

As shown in Table 2, there were differences in the types of sugar listed on the label/nutrition facts as compared to the results from the laboratory assays. For example, for the Mexican Coca-Cola sample, the label lists only “sugar,” but no sucrose was detected by HPLC. Instead, the laboratory analysis detected a 52:48 ratio of free fructose-to-glucose. Vitamin water also tested positive for glucose (0.7 g per 5.5 g/100 ml of total sugar) but the ingredient list only reports cane sugar and crystalline fructose as sweeteners. Finally, the Red Bull tested positive for fructose (1.9 per 10.9 g/100 ml of total sugar) whereas the ingredient list names sucrose and glucose as sweeteners.

Coke only sells the syrup, the bottlers in each country/region are free to modify the sweeteners type and amount. So Product destined for export may be different than that for domestic.

Your quoted article only used one single sample of "mexican coke" bought in california, a single sample is hardly enough to draw conclusions when there is such wide spread regional differences in the product.

mexican cokes bottles are sometimes labelled different for export, I think there may be variations between products made for export, versus exported domestic product.

it wasnt a single sample, it was 12

and yes, coca cola sells the syrup, the syrup is already sweetened with what
coca cola adds to it and while the bottler can add more of something,
no sucrose was detected

this aint rocket surgery

Where do you see that they collected multiple samples of the same beverage? They tested multiple cokes, yes, but different varieties, cans vs bottles vs fountain.

They state 23 samples total of all the chosen soft drinks.

And you are confusing fast food coke syrup, with distributor coke syrup.

The syrup in fountains is pre-sweetened, and only mixed with carbonated water.

the syrup sold to distributors is not pre sweetened, and it is left up to regional bottlers to sweeten and mix to their regions taste. They also do this as it saves a lot of money in shipping. The high sweetener content would make it economically inefficient to waste time shipping cheap sweeteners all over the world. Which is why they essentially only sell the flavourings, and leave the sweetening and carbonating up to the distributors/bottlers in the destination country.

also, how do you not comprehend that there is differences between products made for export, versus exported domestic product? This is vital, as your quoted study does not control for this variable.

They tested exported mexican coke, mexican coke destined for export to america very well could have switched to lower quality sweeteners, while retaining real sugar as a sweetener for products made for the domestic market.

If you dont understand the concepts of product made for export, compared to exported domestic product, I am not going to teach it to you. I'm not your highschool teacher, maybe you should have paid attention in class.

Asides from the sweetener used, the level of sweetness as well as the carbonation level varies by region.

If you live in an area with a large jewish population, you can find HFCS free coke during passover so that it is kosher. Look for the bottles with yellow caps.

they tested 12 bottles of mexican coke. even if it's a single bottle it
makes no difference because it would be one hell of a fluke for a single
bottle out of millions to contain something that the rest do not unless
it's a mouse or a bug

of which it shows that the mexican coke tested contains high fructose corn syrup so either way, the bottle says sugar while the contents have no sucrose

you are of course aware that coke isnt produced in a single place such as
atlanta and distributed around the world, in the US there are several
facilities manufacturing it, mexico also manufactures it, eastern europe,
austrailia, all have a production facility that produces for the bottlers
and guess what, it's shipped sweetened. different regions have different
formulations which accounts for differences in flavor and contrary to
popular belief, it still uses coca leaves for flavoring, even in the US.

the sweetener content isnt as high as you may expect but to give you an example of how this product is produced, coca cola australia produces the syrup and ships it to Coca-Cola Amatil, the bottler for coca cola australia and this is a process that happens all over the world. coca cola australia sources the needed ingredients, mixes the batch and ships it to the bottler who produces the bottles, adds the carbonated water bottles it and packages it for shipping and resale

OK, SO SOMEHOW YOU MUST BE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT EVERYONE THAT DRINKS THIS MEXICAN COKE IS SOMEHOW DRIVING TO MEXICO TO BUY A COKE, THIS THREAD IS ABOUT THE IMPORTED MEXICAN COKE, NOT THE COKE PRODUCED AND SOLD IN MEXICO. THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT DOESNT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN HFCS AND SUCROSE, REGARDLESS OF THIS FACT, THE PRODUCT SHIPPED TO THE US IS LISTED AS HAVING SUGAR WHEN IT ACTUALLY CONTAINS NO SUCROSE WHICH IS WHAT THE POINT WAS FROM THE START SINCE THIS THREAD IS ABOUT THE EXPORT COKE THAT IS IMPORTED INTO THE US

once more, this aint rocket surgery, try and keep up

you're not going to teach it because you dont have a clue how it works,
it's water that's cost prohibitive to ship, not sugars, water is widely
available and dirt cheap, sugars are more expensive but are sourced
regionally which is why the local producers mix the batches from the raw
ingredients because once again, shipping is in fact expensive, so to shit
everything to a central facility for manufacturing and then to re ship it
to another locality just to reship it to a bottler, it becomes cost
prohibitive... maybe you should read up on coke production

In a slightly related note, HFCS was originally called corn sugar in the US, but people began associating the word sugar with food being bad for you, so they renamed it. And now they want to change the name back because now people associate anything that sounds "chemically" with being unhealthy.
