Silica Sand in kitty litter, dessicant?

Hi, I went on a journey looking for dessicant today but all I found was some kitty litter with silica sand in it. The only thing that worries me is that in the ingredients it says: Silica sand,Oxygen,Water, now does it matter if it has water in it? I just thought that maybe it wouldnt suck out the moisture as well. Anyways I was supposed to get some screen mesh as well but failed in doing so. So now I have a mixing bowl with a paper towel on the bottem a bunch of kitty litter 2-3 more paper towels. About 4-5 grams of mushrooms and than a lid on the mixing bowl. Now will this work? and if not, why not? Has anyone had expeirence with working with this type of dessicant? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Shitty journey. My friend tried kitty litter and it was next to useless. You need to go on another journey, don't come back until you have some calcium chloride. You can get it at farming supply stores. Also look for damp rid or names like it at hardware stores. Another option is to dry them for a while in the oven at a low setting. How did you fail to get screen mesh? Sounds like a decided lack of effort...

I don't understand how oxygen could be considered an ingredient.
Dry the litter out in an oven to evaporate any moisture, then use as dessicant.
Your set-up sounds fine.
I use driveway heat (Calcium Chloride). It is cheap for a large quantity.

Also you can stop by your local Walgreens or any drug store really and pick up Epsom Salts. Dehydrate it and then you're set!

I dun know wut the fuck walgreens is but thanks anyways Me and my poor friends couldnt scounge up 2.50 yesterday to goto the hardware store to get wire mesh (i know!) Oxygen is probably in the bag when it is sealed. The litter isnt wet or anything so I guess its a small amount of water. I went to canadian tire, 2 home hardwares, tsc (hardware store), a pharmacy, a grocery store, another home store and failed to find any dessicant... Oh yea.. just incase ditchling is on crack, its not just any kitty litter and can someone else please tell me that if I bake this shit in the oven for however long it will work!

I just seen the mush and they appear to be a lot more dry now. The stems are only like 3-4 mm thick they are the smallest stemmed mushrooms I have ever seen. Its my first time growing and my first flush.I have probably done them 30-40 times and most of them were probably different but I have never seen stems so skinny. Another thing that I thought was weird on the back of the kitty litter it says it sucks moisture out of the waste and evapourates while keeping the odour trapped inside, well when I seen my mush I never noticed any smell. Im not too sure and wont be until tomorrow but that would be strange if it sucked the smell out of the mushrooms.

I know for a fact that canadian tire carries dessicant, it's some no-name brand damp-rid like stuff, it's a cloth bag inside a clear plastic bag, near the humidifiers. go try again. it was $11
but along the same lines... my dog has found that if he puts his fruits directly in front of (like 4" away) an air vent pushing room temperature (or slightly warmer) air out, they will get cracker dry in a day or two

Also after fanning for a day or two you can put them 6 inches or so under a light and cover the lil guys with a black tshirt (Moe Howard's drying tek). This can be accomplished if there are shelves ina closet near the light.
