Nope.

Do you understand what cancellation fee means?

Do you realize what condescending means and that being so isn't helpful to convincing others?

Quote:
It also includes if you call hours or days ahead of your appointment to change the appointment to a later time. Read the Yelp reviews for Providence. Several people complained about how they were charged $150 because they changed their appointment time to a later hour. The restaurant would have still gotten their money, and wouldn't have lost anything.

It seems like that's an even better reason to charge the fee as now the establishment needs to scramble to rearrange things to suit you.

Quote:
I can understand having a cancellation fee if the person made a reservation and didn't show up at all, especially on a Friday or Saturday, but that's not what's happening here.

If a person doesn't show up the fee should be equal to the cost of an average check for a party of their size.

Quote:
And certainly NOT $150!!!

You're right... it should be higher to stop self-entitled tools from abusing the reservation system.

That is ridiculous. They don't need to scramble to rearrange anything. If you change your appointment time, they're not going to give you a time that is not available or all booked up and rearrange tables for you. They are going to tell you that time is all booked up, and they are only going to give you an open table at a different time. Meaning, they don't scramble to rearrange jack shit. The host or hostess simply switches the time, and you know what's called? DOING THEIR JOB.

Quote:
You're right... it should be higher to stop self-entitled tools from abusing the reservation system.

Calling hours or days before-hand to cancel or request a different time is NOT abusing the reservation system. Most people don't even bother to call the restaurant back if they know they aren't going to show up--THAT is abusing the reservation system.

Doesn't surprise me you would be for this, considering how authoritarian your beliefs are.

You've demonstrated on multiple occasions that you don't even know what my beliefs are.

If you make a reservation and then cancel it, you should pay a fee. Period. Nothing authoritarian about it. It's a business and they deserve to get paid.

Don't like it? Make a reservation elsewhere.

And why on earth should that apply if you cancel well over 24 hours in advance, or if you simply change the appointment time to a later time?!?!?! Why????!!! The restaurant hasn't lost jack shit if you do this.

Also, these cancellation fees are only for the comfort of the business and not the consumer. For example, I read a yelp review where the restaurant misplaced and lost somebody's reservation. Do you think that person who travelled hours to the restaurant only to be not served was refunded or reimbursed for their lost time and gas and mileage?? Nope.

Sorry but service industry is for the purpose of CUSTOMER satisfaction. Not employee satisfaction. If you can't handle people changing reservation times, then you shouldn't be in the food industry.

Oh and btw, I'm all in favor of making practices against cheating customers. Like, if a customer eats their entite plate, they shouldn't be entitled to a refund. Either you return it with the first few bites, or you pay. But this cancellation fee is over the top, especially when you give the restaurant more than enough time in advance.

I agree, extremely inconsiderate to the people who keep them in business.

But you aren't keeping them in business.

The people who show up when they agreed to and then leave when they are done are their moneymakers.

Wow, holy shit, way to read my post.

WHY SHOULD THAT APPLY TO THE PEOPLE WHO CHANGE THEIR RESERVATION TO A LATER TIME??

also people could be repeat customers and still have a reason to cancel or change the time every now and then

I did read your post. So you really think moronic comments like "Wow, holy shit, way to read my post" do your position any good?

When you make a reservation you have entered into an agreement. If you violate that agreement you deserve to be penalized.

Don't like it? Eat elsewhere.

Clearly the establishment has decided this is in their best interest.

Maybe if you express your righteous indignation to the establishment they'll see the error of their ways and make an exception just for you. Barring that, notify Congress. I'm sure they'll care.

Booooo to snooty restaurants. Its just food so the fact they think they have a skill that deserves 150$ just on principle is absurd to me.

Worst thing about restaurants in my opinion is that they never list alcohol prices well enough and there are always stipulations like draft vs bottled prices.

I'm OK with paying more for booze at a restaurant I just wanna know if I'm paying strip club prices without having to run down the list with the waiter every time I wanna change to a different beer.

Haha, no. The agreement is not legally binding. Did you sign a contract? No.

Clearly its not the establishment since that is the only restaurant that I know of that does such a thing.

There's more important things. There's a famous upscale Chinese restaurant in LA that seats all whites and Asians on the first floor which is much nicer, and all black people on the second floor. Its actually a pretty well known thing that is kept a secret among LA socialites and theres quite a few reviews on urbanspoon written about it. I've been thinking about exposing that restaurant by writing to the LA Times.

Hahaha, that's why I didn't use the term "contract" or the words "legally binding". Sometimes your word should be enough.

What?????? You're going to expose something that actually is an issue?

Imagine that.

Don't you think that if the restaurant implements such a policy it is also their duty to notify their customers BEFOREHAND, when they make the reservation, that if they cancel or change the time there will be a cancellation fee of $150?

That's another problem, is that Providence doesn't even tell you about the cancellation policy beforehand.

If you make a reservation, you give me a deposit. If you fail to show up, i keep it.

Im not gonna keep my customers waiting in line with an empty table in the middle of the place for an hour. That would only piss off people and make me lose money

If you make a commitment, you respect it or you pay

And no, your word isnt good enough for me

Yup. I'd be surprised if they don't as someone would have sued them over it.

If you're assertion is correct and they actually don't tell people, that would be a problem. Like I said, I'd be surprised.
