I shouldn't have to. Being considerate of others is reason enough.

I'm quite glad I don't live in a country where being inconsiderate of others is considered a social norm.

Yo do have to explain, though, because I can explain to why it ISN'T inconsiderate. If you leave immediately, it is telling the restaurant their atmosphere sucks which is inconsiderate, it is being inconsiderate of an intimate moment between friends and family, inconsiderate towards leisure, towards your own sense of wellbeing.

Eating and going has a way high rudeness quota imo. There is ten more times rudeness in an eat and run, imo.

Why do you find it inconsiderate, seriously?
Why didn't you make reservations?
Why don't you go to a new restaurant,
or have several choices to go to that you like?

I don't enjoy it when it is people I HAVE to chum it up with for a strategic or formality reason.
I love it when it is good friends though.

No its pe4rfectly normal. Pretty everybody has done it at some point.

People are smart enough not to stay too long when they see a waiting line at the door though.

That's rare that happens,
but I'm not an ASSHOLE. I would give up my table if I was totally finished.
But the rule of thumb is, stay as long as you fuckin' want if there ain't no line.

Answered multiple times. Asking the same question multiple times is pointless.

Many restaurants don't take reservations. Even in those that do, monopolizing the table as if the world revolves around you is rude to others. But hey... it's all about you in your world where-as I choose to think of others.

Sometimes I do, sometimes there are insufficient restaurants in the area.  Either way, I show consideration for others that may also wish to dine out. It's not all about me.

Like I said, I'm quite glad I don't live in a country where being inconsiderate of others is considered a social norm.

I don't consider 'because you are making people wait' an answer
because I don't find anything wrong or rude with that situation.
Maybe I'm just more easy going than you?
Yours is really more a personal beef with a particular way of life.

I mean, but, we are really just looking at each other in the mirror here.

You are rude to me and I to you.

Seriously though, like I said if there is a huge line then yes, I'll leave when I'm done.

But you should find no problem with staying for who cares how long when there is vacancies.

This is a business, not a soup kitchen, you think they get free tomatoes?

Enjoy your dining experience and the post-meal social aspect of it. Stay an hour. Nobody gives a fuck. If you want to in and out there are places called fast food joints.

Good for you. Diners that can't be seated because they are "out of sight, out of mind" must be very comforting to you.

Except then it's the staff being imposed upon. I guess they don't count.

Now, anything different to add or are we to continue along with me finding your cultural norm inconsiderate/rude and you feeling it is not?

I just think it is weird you think the dining experience is supposed to be like McDonalds drive though, whether it is a 5 star restaurant or not.

Like I said, a restaurant here is open to be a social place, much like a paintball arena is supposed to contain paintball games.

You are seriously looking at life like a drive through window, while I parked my car, got out and smelled the roses for an hour. I'll save you a seat though, so you can smell em too.

A simple "no, I have nothing new to add" would have sufficed.

What's IS weird though is you making the assumption I want dining out to be like a McDonalds drive through. Seems like a childish thing to assume. But hey... good for you.

But you have indirectly stated, or directly in my eyes a dining experience should consists of eating and leaving...how is that dissimilar to a drive through?

Here's a way to boil the sides down to a concise concept:

With the simple question 'What is the purpose of a restaurant?'

If you flat out said a 'restaurant is for eating and not for socializing' I'd understand you better, but still strongly disagree.

It's for both. Apparently in your part of the world "to be inconsiderate of others" is also an answer.

So how long can I stay after I am done?

Are you 30 minutes away from agreeing with me?
20 minutes?
You are probably within a Game of Thrones difference in opinion.

When does the the meter go from 'completely average dining experience'
to your definition of being inconsiderate.

An hour in europe is not inconsiderate. Maybe in america it is.

How not surprising. Yet it is inconsiderate even if you choose to disagree.

I choose to leave immediately upon paying, thus opening up the table for the next patron and/or freeing the staff to deal with others.

I'm able to find other places to converse where others are not inconvenienced.

Thinking of others... what a horrible thing to do.

How about we talk about some actual, serious restaurant issues, like when a restaurant only has three or four vegan options and none of them are made with organic, fairtrade ingredients.

1 thing that really pisses me off is the 2-Michelin star restaurant called Providence in LA. If you cancel or move your reservation to a later time, they take a $150 cancellation fee!!!

That in my mind is ridiculous. If you didn't use their services, you shouldn't be charged, especially not over a bill!

You've deprived them of income they would have generated had you kept your end of the deal. They should charge you.

Incorrect. Do you understand what cancellation fee means? It also includes if you call hours or days ahead of your appointment to change the appointment to a later time. Read the Yelp reviews for Providence. Several people complained about how they were charged $150 because they changed their appointment time to a later hour. The restaurant would have still gotten their money, and wouldn't have lost anything.

I can understand having a cancellation fee if the person made a reservation and didn't show up at all, especially on a Friday or Saturday, but that's not what's happening here. And certainly NOT $150!!!
