How can you prefer proofs?  They are by far the hardest and least useful skills you can learn in math.

logic is more relevant to my degree and i find it more interesting than other math, if you consider logic math. i don't. it's its own thing. the next field to peel off phil into its own slot like psychology did in the 19th century actually.

I don't know how you can not consider logic math.  Math is all logic.

We seem to be in a position where our economy is deflating while also inflating at the same time. There is a term 'stagflation' that refers to a stagnating economy with something cost-pushing consumer prices up but we seem to be in a deflation + inflation wombo combo. Less jobs, less wages = deflation. Oil being a finite resources that affects almost everything in our economy = cost push inflation.

I figure we have at least another decade or so of surplus capital plus we have the worlds reserve currency which allows the fed to do things like create 'inflation targets' to counter act the deflation but it doesnt seem to be working since we have shifted all our production to other countries (we are a consumer/service nation now).

Will be interesting to see what happens a decade or so from now when the middle class will probably be run completely out of the picture and we will have a society consisting of only the rich and the working poor.

logic is specifically the study of reasoning. all math is "logical" but not all math is logic.

I'm not saying I got too far with that in my studies or anything but I liked the logic aspect. In comparison racing to punch things into a calculator is not my idea of a good time.

I agree. Once our economy runs out of cheap oil, shit will hit the fan.

It is a sign that cheap oil is gone that fracking is now economical

Ha! The manager at the company thought I did. There were other jobs in the plant where people were making $19.

The majority of us working there didn't have a lot of education but we all had skills and were well liked. It just so happened that our biggest customer was General Dynamics. The people that worked there got payed $35 to $40 painting the same parts we did.

To bad we were an independently owned branch and when production wasn't meeting his expectancy he decided to let go of all the people that have been there for over seven years. It would be easy for him to find new people when production picked up by going through the temp agencies. I saw a lot of temps come and go throughout the years.

The manufacturing business is truly an unreliable source of income for any young person to get into.  I had a couple of buddies there who had just bought a house while working there and now have a huge mortgage to pay off working for less.

Fair enough. Believe me I wanted to stop living at that point too. It truly was a horrible thing.  Never be a car owner when you are doing yay yay and whiskey on a frequent basis.

Turns you into this guy....

Sorry for your struggles.

Yeah, it actually is. Math IS logic. That is all there is to math. It's all equivalent statements of pure logic. That is all that math is. You can take any statement and break it down into smaller parts, but its all saying the same thing.

1+1 = 2 is (2+2) / 2 is  (4+4) / 4... is all saying this equals 2.

Its just a logic game of understanding

Yup.  As I said, math is pure logic.  Physics is applied math or applied logic essentially.  Math is the study of abstract logical concepts.
