Yawning, thermoregulation, and serotonergic hallucinogens!
    #19955791 -

Ever wonder why you yawn? Me too!

This article - http://www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/why-do-we-yawn popped up in my news feed today.
Apparently scientists have discovered that yawning is closely tied to thermoregulation of the body/brain

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0031938414001784
In a nut shell, yawning apparently helps cool the brain.

Now, if you take a look at what certain subtypes of receptors do within the body, namely the 5ht-2a that serotonergic drugs act on... The 5ht2a receptor performs
the following role:

"Addiction (potentially modulating) [45].  [<- off topic but pretty interesting! There is a john hopkins survey going on right now to see about shrooms and tobacco smokeingn cessation, and may also be a light in to the whole thing behind lsd helping to treat alcoholism]
Anxiety[46]
Appetite
Cognition
Imagination
Learning
Memory
Mood
Perception
Sexual Behavior[47]
Sleep[48]
Thermoregulation[49]
Vasoconstriction[50]"
- copied straight from wikipedia

With that, i'd say it's the body's fluctuation in temperatures resulting from the agonistic effects on the serotonin receptors that cause you to yawn while tripping.

What is the evidence that people yawn more/less while tripping?

It is given that I start to yawn before any trip.. It's a key indicator that shit is about to hit the fan!

I yawn a lot on dissociatives. I also gag and almost puke after i yawn on dissociatives. Really weird.

Serotonin is a major building block in our neuro-construction.

psychedelics seems to fit like a key, producing all sorts of beneficial effects in our individual neuropathies. slows the brain, cools it down, conduces neural pathways to one another... and that's just the physical effects.

it seems that toying with said systems might be quite dangerous, and it certainly is... though, in the case of Tryptamines, it seems to be purely healthy and beneficial... as long as one doesn't go off the deep end.

I think I've heard somewhere that yawning was used in the heard mentality to single the group that a predator was near and that it's time to move on.

But thermoregulation of the body/brain?

That's news to me. :super:

Yeah akira I was looking it up tonight and it seems to modulate the release of a ton of orher chemicals in the brain

it's ridiculous how much shit it does, i mean, we don't even know just how many actions it takes place in, in the brain. same with Dopamine and many other neurotransmitters. i wish i had the patience to delve into it, because man, there is so much one can learn just from the brain's workings... it's fucked.

on that note... i mean, Schizophrenia... Dopamine? i mean, why? it just makes no sense... or does it?  immense downregulation of Dopamine receptors, causing one of the most hallucinatory states known to man? WHY?!

I always yawn on the comeup of mushrooms.

Mushrooms helped me get off alcohol for 9 months. I was only dosing once every 10 days at first, but then it just got out of hand.

I think LSD could greatly help alcoholics. Bill W got clean after taking LSD.
