fml trying to piece together my new pc and failing hard
    #19934889 -

the damn megga Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO heatsink is giving me grief when screwing it into the motherboard. cant get the four screws to line up properly!

i think i fucked it up somehow because i cant get it to line up fml

i thin ill just take it into a pc shop and get them to put it all together.

still going to work on it some more but if i cant fix it then fuck it ill just take it to a tech shop and get them to do it.

noob!

hopefully you didn't bend any pins in the socket while futzing around with that cooler..
are you using the right bracket? They will usually come with one bracket for intel chips and one for AMD

If you aren't already, lay the system down on the side.. so you are looking down at it.. it's 10x easier to install the cooler that way

got a picture?

oh man its a collosal debacle. ive pretty much sorted it now though through speaking with alot of people about it.

the mobo is Asus Sabertooth 990fx R2.0

heat sink is Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

problem was getting the X bracket that fixes to the backplate to fit the board. i could only get two sets of the screws on one side to fit at one time. it was slightly angled.

another issue is that on my board, the 212 evo stretches out above the first ram slot, so its a bit of a bad choice for my mobo anyways.

but basically what ive decided to do for now is just stick with the stock heatsink for now untill i get the new PC Up and running, and then after ive got all that sorted, then ill look at heatsinks and fix it later.

I'm sure i'm going to run into more issues once i switch out the mobos and have to start connecting in the cables and all that crap too. but ah well. ill be right eventually.

might just take it to one of those PC shops and get them to fit it all in.

sounds like you got a cooler that doesnt support your socket.

Why do people feel the need to do fancy shit on their first build?

Stock cooler would of been fine for ya. Doubt your going to do any hard core overclocking even then you would go water cooled anyday of the week.

Good luck.

Oh, and it's much easier to get the heatsink on before putting the board into the case.

ya this was with the board outside of the case.

its a long story and hard to explain, but basically yeah its a difficult to fit heatsink. it does fit the board im 90% sure but yeah. bit difficult.

ive got stock cooling and have fitted that now, but have had overheating issues in the past, so ithought i might grab a heatsink as well, especially given that they are relatively cheap. but didn't do my research well enough and it kind of backfired.

nah i gave up in the end, it should be right with the stock heatsink.

ill research it a bit more and upgrade it again if really necessary. at this point its fine though.

the games alot better now, should play some its fun!

ah well.. as long as you aren't overclocking the CPU you should be ok with the stock heatsink... those things kinda suck though at keeping temps low.
Get a corsair H80i or someshit.

yeah i just need to research it a bit more to find the right one. its winter time here now atm, so there wont be any issues of overheating. but in the summertime i might work out which is a good cooler that fits my mobo without issues etc.
