Fine Vs Coarse Vermiculite
    #1979662 - 10/04/03 08:51 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

How much of a differance does it make? My first batch I used vermiculite that was chunky, not unlike what was on the PF Tek website. This batch is alot more fine than the other one, as it was all I could find. How will they turn out?

fine verm works better....you can just powder chunky verm in a blender if you need to.

Really? I thought a medium-coarse verm was desired to allow for more breathability for the myc. I've considered fine verm for dunk and rolls though. And of course it's not available around here.

sorry...poor choice of words....if it's too chunky,ie 5mm plus in size you can easily blend it down to 2 or 3mm grain size.

Ah, ok.  I think I may try the coffee grinder to make some fine verm now.

I had this problem with my substrate turning to a green color and continuing to colonize over and i switched brands of verm and I havent had this problem anymore, the new verm looks to be finer and just like "the same look" the other verm was overly fine in and then big chunks.
